Perm Dream
« on: September 14, 2009, 11:51:19 PM »
Ok, I need to know I'm not obsessed.  Have any of you ever dreamed you got a perm and you woke up relieved to find your hair still natural?  I've had this perm dream more than once in the 5 years since my first BC.  Please tell me you've had it too  :hypnotized:

I have these dreams from time to time.  I had one where I went to get my hair trimmed, but the woman permed my hair and I didn't notice until it was too late.
They always make me feel sad.
I think it means (don't quote me, I'm not an expert) that I feel like people are not seeing me for who I really am, or that I'm not being true to myself at those times in my life.  It could also mean don't eat meatloaf right before bed.

I have them whenever I'm contemplating changing something about my hair - color, straightening, trimming, layering, etc.

It's always the same thing - whatever service I'm going in for, my hair ends up relaxed... I cry... the stylist my auntie used to work for comes in with a pair of scissors promising she can "fix" it.

In 99% of my dreams my hair is long, bone straight, jet black and parted down the middle. Weird.

I've never dreamed it, but I have been to the salon getting my hair done and while Im getting it shampooed and conditioned my scalp starts to tingle like they are using relaxer by mistake. Frightening!

NO, Jazzi, you're NOT obsessed. I've had a similar dream, the texturizer dream . From that dream I woke up crying. In the dream my hairdresser said "I've got a surprise for you, trust me, you'll like it." Later I smelled that "perm odor" (everyone who has had a relaxer before knows what I'm saying, that unforgettable chemical smell) and saw my hairdresser mixing up some cream in a wooden bowl. I asked her what it was, and she said, "Something for you curls. You'll like it." A curlygirl 2 chairs down from me said. "Yeah, that stuff will make your hair easier to comb through. I liked mine when it got done. What do you think?" She flipped her hair over her shoulder. Her hair looked so limp to me, it almost had no curl left. But maybe that was what she wanted. As soon as the hairdresser came towards me with the spatula intending to apply that creamy concoction on my strands, I jumped out of the chair and ran for the door.
Then I woke up (thank goodness), wiping my face and touching my 3c-4b curlyfro.

*If I knew in middle school what I know now, I would've never relaxed my hair.*

yes ma'am i've had several over the course of the last few years.  I never know what they mean or why I dream about it and it leaves me upset, near tears and confused sometimes.  I just shrug it off and let it go and calm down when I realize it was indeed a dream and my curly hair is still in tact.

Oh yes! I have had this dream.  It is so nerve racking. I will not go to a stylist if she does not do natural hair or at least respect it. I know that I can't go to my old stylist because she doesn't respect natural hair and she will be one of those "ooops, I got some relaxer on your head" and I will be like "ooops, I just slapped you with a law suit"  lol. On the real those dreams do freak me out.

OMG!!! So this is normal? :o  I guess it's safe to say we'll never tex-lax, relax, or whatever!  Anytime the thought of perming becomes a nightmare, you know you're curly for life!

I've had it before.

I think that when you've disciplined yourself to do something that is good for you, the subconscious fear that you will stumble still lingers.

I also have this type of dream in terms of my eating habits and exercise. I eat well and will occasionally have nightmarish dreams that I am eating donuts or chips or drinking soda. They are scary until I wake up and realize that I'm still on track.
Hair type: Whatever's available.

chemical free since 07/2001

Shampoo: Elucence
Conditioner: Aubrey Organics/Curl Junkie Hibiscus & Banana Deep Fix
Extras: Curl Junkie Curl Fuel

Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding: No thanks. Product dandruff's not my thing.
