there was a thread like this on  another site.  I'm curious about why Beyonce's hair is such a hot topic on natural hair boards. Why not other stars?  It's like we find it hard to believe that she doesn't have beautiful hair.  Why dont' we debate whether angela basset's hair is hers?  or christina milian?  or any other celeb?

***also:  her weaves (and those of the ladies named above) are fierce.  I think it sets an unrealistic beauty standards for young ladies, but what doesn't?  And I love it when we do get to see their real hair (like christina milian used to do), but the weave is all a part of the image, no less real than anything else they produce.

I think that we (the altar of public opinion) have elevated Beyonce as the "it" girl, so her weight, her hair, etc. seems to generate discussion in a maybe in a disproportionate way. Just today, I think I read that her mother had said she'd gone back to a relaxer because her natural hair was not as manageable as she'd hope. Who knows??????

I'm not sure we've seen Beyonce without a weave, lacefront, or tracks in public in many years. I would be willing to bet that the photo in the OP is not her actual hair though.

Beyonce is one of the most beautiful black women in the world! Tons of polls by regular folk as well as people in the beauty industry state that fact.

Having said this.... the girl has a lot at stake to keeping her beautiful image up.

First of all, it's money in the bank - for her, her representatives and the companies and people she advertises for. I bet you, movie execs hire her more for her looks (and box office draw) than her acting talent. (Don't kill me please, but I think there are waaaaay better black actresses out there than Beyonce.)

Secondly, what woman does not want to see her name and glamorous pictures associated with "ultimate beauty?!"

Very few of us wake up in the morning and look stunning. We all need a little help with hair and make-up.... (Note, I didn't say we can't be beautiful without hair and make-up... but being stunning and ready for a photo-op is different.)

A couple of years ago, I saw an interview on TV, where Halle Berry mentioned that she won't leave the house  - even just to go to her mailbox - without hair and make-up done. Now... I think Halle is verrrrrrrry beautiful and I can imagine she would be just fine without much help.... Still, even she's worried that the paparazzi or fans may see her "plain" and her image is "off."

Entertainers like Beyonce and Halle have an image to keep up and they have the time and money (and people) to do so. They must! Money and opinions ride on this.

So what if Beyonce wears wigs, weaves and whatever! I don't recall her making statements to the fact that all that hair is her REAL hair GROWING out of her scalp.
Type 3a/3b BSL, fine, color-treated hair. Naturally curly and happy for about 6+ years.

I am not my hair, I am not my skin - I AM the soul that lives within!

Maybe it is just me, but I missed the point?? What is that thing on the side of her face? So is your opinion now that it is a wig and not a weave or other?

I can't speak for anyone else, but it's not a "hot" topic for me. No debate for me either. I was looking at pics, and thought, "Wow. That's pretty. I wonder if that's her hair, because she looks nice with a more natural look." That goes for the minimal makeup that she's wearing too(in the pic).

It IS sometimes hard to tell whether it's her natural hair or not(as with most celebrities because as you stated, there is an image they have to uphold), but at the end of the day, it's not that deep to me. I just thought her hair looked cute.

I'm always amused at peoples' fascination with trying to catch celebrities looking like boo boo (the paparazzi probably gets PAID for that shot of whichever A-List celebrity looking like poo). Almost like it validates to them that they aren't REALLY that beautiful to begin. I guess some people need that. D'ah well.

Maybe it's just me, but every woman in my family always told me that once you get to a certain age, you shouldn't walk out of your house with NOTHING on your face. They weren't saying you needed to put a full face on, but you should take the time to put on a little mascara and lipstick/gloss before you walk out. With that said, I'm not really surprised that Halle said she doesn't walk outside without being made up. For one, when a huge percentage of your income depends on your looks, thems be the breaks. Beyonce's contract with L'Oreal (or whoever that is) stipulated that as long as she represented them, her hair MUST look a certain way. She's selling a product for them, whether she's on TV or not, and if people see Beyonce's hair looking a mess, they'll be slow to buy L'Oreal products. Halle was doing beauty ads at one point as well so I'm sure the same applied to her.

Regular chicks don't have to deal with that so that's probably why some would scoff at the notion of having to be fully made up before you leave your house. They're being paid millions of dollars to sell a product; we aren't. Big difference.

that looks like Toure, a writer for Rolling Stone. I don't think that's her hair in the pic, though, but whosever hair it is it looks nice on her head  ;)

I can't see the pic, but it sounds like that's the one where she had a lace front, which is basically a fake piece of scalp with some hair on it, technically I guess it is somewhere between a wig and a weave. Anyway, I think that thing on her face is the part which attaches the hair onto your scalp. I think it started to slip off mid-song as she pulls a lot of muscles her face when she sings.

Are you talking about the pic with the shocked looking guy, or the one in the OP?

I know why Beyonce constantly gets the backlash...but if I say it, I know peeps will be pissed! LOL  But to put it kindly, its a simple case of the pretty girl that has it all.

I think, apart from the resentment that always comes when you're on top, another one of the reasons Beyonce has so many detractors is because she is so overrated. It's just like J-Lo back in the day, when she was allegedly "the most beautiful woman in the world", I look at Beyonce as being the successor.

I think people are confused and annoyed by the hype so when they see all the things that are amiss they point them out.

I think every shot you see of Beyonce -- wavy, curly, whatever -- is a weave.

@jeamaria, the OP pic, I believe is not her hair, The pic with the shocked guy is the guy I believe is Toure, a writer for  Rolling Stone Magazine, and her real honest to goodness head of hair --sorry to confuse
