hair woes
« on: July 31, 2006, 10:21:24 AM »
i currently cut my hair so that it's all even when it's straight, except i have one last layer that's 4 inches shorter up front.  sounded like a good idea at first, since shrinkage was working in my favor up until now.  i took my braids out and discovered that after 10 inches my hair finally starts elongating.  so now i have this pretty funky-looking shake n' go... the front and sides are too long, with this shrunken curly mass fromthe top to the crown and behind my ears to the nape of my neck.

it's not cute. >:(

guess i'm gonna have to choose between no more shake n' go's, or cutting my hair differently. *end of rant* :P

anyone else have a few hair woes to share?

well it's no longer a woe as of a few days ago, but my hair was soooooooo dry! i was getting worried! i thought i wouldn't have a dry hair problem since it was summer and humid, but i was wrong. i tried so many different products (that's what brought on my pj relapse, unfortunately  :-[) but luckily i fixed it by adding elucence to my dry hair a few nights in a row, then finding devacurl one c...oh, now my hair is back to normal.  ;D i like squeezing it again...sigh...heaven! haha!

eta: i think it might have been the oils in my regimen that caused my dryness  ??? i hope not. but i'll stay away for a while, then try them again just to check if in fact they are the culprit. maybe my hair doesn't like oils in the summer...

I have really bad-looking, wedding-cake layers in the front of my hair.  I've come to the conclusion that they simply look too awful to wear my hair completely down/loose.  Until the front grows at least 4 inches, I will need to wear the front part of my hair (or all of it) pulled back.  This is proving to be a real pain in the butt because I'm not too good with updos, and I cannot wear headbands.  I've bought the updo book, Strictly Curls, and I'm trying to make do pinning up pieces in the front with bobby pins, snap clips and little barettes.  And I wear buns quite a bit.  On the weekends, I play around with scarves -- the scarf bun and the gravity-defying "Erica Badu" look.

But I wish I just had a better haircut...none of these stupid, short layers.

My hair is currently undergoing a dry, dry spell. It doesn't just feel dehydrated, it is stiff and inflexible and extremely tangled. I've tried natural butters, my usual honey, cutting out oils, shampooing instead of CO-washing, washing my hair more, mayo DTs. I am about to order a bunch of new conditioners and see what what really works; I can tell it's the old damage, but I am reluctant to cut off more than I already have, as it would not suit my face, and would be even more difficult to style.

This is my current issue as well.  I'm experimenting with Devacurl and Blended Beauty right now, I think I also need a trim and to change my filter.

This is gonna sound dumb.

I wish my hair would grow faster.  Saturday made a year since I begin my transition, and I'd hoped for a 1/2 inch per  month. Today it's only 5 inches  :(.  I know, I KNOW-- it's silly. I miss my length sometimes, though.

One of my hair woes (I have a couple  >:( ) was the whole dryness thing. But I took a tip from Jazzi and watered down my Elucence. I clarified last week, deep conditioned w/Aubrey overnight then from then I've been using the watered down Elucence. It's really been working very nicely and I don't get build up as fast I notice so I haven't had to shampoo in about a week (that's great for me)

The other hair woe I'm still working on is these knots. I have a horrible habit of just ripping them out cause I'm either too lazy to walk a few steps to get the scissors or too impatient to wait till I get home. Now if I do get to the scissors I go crazy and just snip away...but I still am getting split ends and such. I put myself on a "no knot cutting or ripping" challenge as well as a "keep your hands out of your head" challenge. I may be playing in my hair too much.

So that's pretty much it, everything else has been going alright.

The hair in the crown of my head grows faster than the rest of my head and it drives me nuts.  This area is always the reason for my twa "shape up".
