Giovanni conditioners are found at GNC and they're great!

I am not sure if everyone has a Meijer's but if you do, you will also find it here.  That is the only place locally in Cincinnati that I have spotted it.  We don't have the best BSS around here, besides Sally's and it does not carry a lot like I hear others does.  And the rest of ours has more old school products in there. :-\

Anyone have some new CG BSS suggestions? They're out of my favorites, sheamoisture and skala locally.

Also, the olive oil cholesterol by lustrasilk is marketed as a leave in. Has anyone used it that way successfully? TIA

To me this is a bitter/sweet post. It's good to see that there are local products that are good for you hair but when I was reading another post about our daily hair routine, majority of the products that you all loved were brought online. I think this is an excellent post for people who don't want to deal with online only venders.

My favorite DC - Elasta QP Intense Fortifying Conditioner - it has hydrolyzed silk proteins somewhere in the middle of the list - my hair loves it!

And I'm so excited to see this post! So often people post products they love, and I know they get sick of my first question being - cone/mineral/petro free? Because if it's not, it doesn't even make any sense for me to get hype about it. *sigh*

co-signing with sweetkeesha...great list everybody!

how are you all using the ORS lock and twist gel?  are you just using it when you twist or are you putting it all over your hair as a moisturizer?  i just asked because i still have a tub that i bought in the early stages of the bc, and i've probably used it once or twice to do twists and once to do single strand coils, and the last time i tried to use it this spring to do to single strand coils, my hair didn't really hold and i ended up stopping before my whole head was done.  if you are using it as a moisturizer, how does it make your hair feel?  i had a friend who was natural in college and she used to color her hair all the time and keep it short, and this was the only product aside from regular gel that she would put on her hair.  it made her curls pop, but i also remember it having lots of hold on her hair.

i like hollywood beauty creme too.... i haven't used it since around summer of 2006 so i may have to revisit that.  i am heavy handed and i like for my hair to feel well moisturized, and this was definitely a nice one but be prepared for your hands to be in your hair all day....i also liked the fact that this product made my hair have a more "puffy afro cloud" appearance and not the shiny curl definition look.

and jeamaria, now that i think about it, my friend back in college i think she used to put cholesterol on her hair sometimes also.  from what i could see it didn't pose any problems on her hair.  i used to use cholesterol quite a lot as a permie, and i did remember trying some when i went natural once.  i can't remember which brand i got, but the brand i got had mineral oil in it.  aside from that, it is good stuff though.  i may have to sift back through these lists to see which cholesterol brand you all are using that is mineral oil free.

where are you all finding the shea moisture shea butter products?  i wouldn't mind trying those...they sound good.

you ladies are going to make me slip back into being a product junkie....just when i thought i had it under control!!!   but i guess that's a part of being natural...learning and relearning what works for your hair and what doesn't.  because i also discovered that the longer my hair gets, certain products don't work the same or produce the same results so i have to switch up.

Thanks for the feedback on the cholesterol, shortycocoa I might pick up the olive. Lustrasilk is the brand that makes it, but only the Shea and Olive versions are mineral oil-free. Hollywood Beauty is a bit too oily and coating on my hair, unfortunately.

Also, I need to try the ORS stuff again. What you said about products producing different results as your hair gets longer, and in my case after being modified-CG for a longer time, is so true. It can be a good thing, too: stuff I used before that didn't work started working on my hair (castor oil, fantasia ic, etc.). I didn't know the ORS could be used as a moisturizer. Maybe I could try mixing it with some other product to make it more emollient and use it that way. I know my cousin loves it so if it doesn't work on my hair, I could just give it to her.

SheaM, I found in a regular BSS. They don't all have it, though, but the people that get it on the ground seem to pay around $6 versus the $8+shipping it costs online.

wow i didn't think about it like that....so i guess i should try to revisit some products i was using when i had shorter hair that were maybe meant to produce the best results on longer hair?  i'm going to try the ORS as a moisturizer.  it seems like it is being marketed as a moisturizer for twists and locks but i don't see why it wouldn't be an effective moisturizer for loose hair as well.  it seems like it would be a light one, though, so you might want to add your own things to it like you said if you want something heavier.  i will probably end up doing that too because i hate for my hair to look and be dry.   the ingredients seem okay and i don't see any cones in the list, i know some of you try to stay away from a lot of cones.

if i happen to go back to the bss in my area i will look for the sheaM.
