After the Big Chop
« on: August 03, 2006, 12:10:11 PM »
I just recently BC'd on July 22nd. A week later I went back and had a barber even it out and trim all the straight pieces off and it looks so much better. Is it normal for my hair to continue to look as if I have some straight pieces on the top? Will I continue to have to trim for a while to get them all out?

Your comments will be appreciated.

I am loving my hair. And the straight pieces are not very noticable but they are to me.
I have also heard of some people cutting really low to avoid this.

first of all, let me say congrats on your bc, girl!

as for the straight ends, it all depends. how short did you cut it? maybe your hair isn't long enough to form it's curl yet, or it may naturally be a looser curl type than the rest of your hair. also sometimes hair goes into shock after a drastic change, so maybe just give it a little while to realize that it no longer has to be straight anymore and can now do it's own thing! it's also possible that you still have some straight ends remaining, maybe even some heat damage from your permie days. (hopefully not...)

in any case, i'm sure it still looks fly. and like you said, you're probably the only one that notices it, so just sit back, relax, and enjoy the nappy freedom!  :afro:
trying to catch up after being m.i.a. for 2 years. dang, there are a lot of posts!

I'm learning not to take it personally when other people's crazy is showing...it's not my problem.

Congrats on your BC girly.  :bunny:

I did my fourth BC at the end of February and I cut my hair down and it was like an inch long. I had the same problem with the straight pieces not sure why because I didn't even have a perm but I just ended up cutting it all off because that got on my nerves as well. I agree with Natakue that your hair could have different textures, that your hair could have gone into shock from the drastic change, or you might still have some permed ends remaining. Just give it some time and get a trim once your hair grows out some. I am sure it looks beautiful.   :2thumbsup:

Congrats on your BC!!!!!

I BC'ed a little over a year ago.  I cut off ALOT of relaxed hair.  It took my hair about a week or two to get used to having the relaxed ends off, but each day it got better and better.  It's almost like the hair has to retrain itself and get used to not being constanly pulled downward. Just continue to pump moisture into it and it will settle.

What she said!  ;)  When that heifer >:( did my BC, she cut too much off the front because she thought it was straight pieces, but it's just that the hair there is looser in texture so it grows out "straight" for a while before it will curl and moisturizers can really weigh it down.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BC!!!!!!!!!!!    :party1: :celebrate:

My hair had come out from under the scalp, in a lot of places, so by the time I actually chopped, I chopped down to that length of new growth (about 1/2 inch, if that much  :-\).  I did 3 other cuts/trims to get the straight pieces out because my hair was GROWING that way.  I thought it was scab hair.
