Stupid, pea-flicking, Garnier Fructis Soft Curl Cream
« on: August 20, 2006, 08:00:45 PM »
HOW DO YOU USE THIS STUFF???

Maybe my hair just hates it or it's too short, but every time I try this stuff out I end up with a big frizzy, dry poof.  Not the cute kind of frizz, but I-slept-too-late-and-my-hair-got-stuck-this-way kind of frizz.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

The 1st time I used this stuff I got a cute fluffy 'fro.  Beyond that my hair looked a hot mess.  I loved the smell but the SCC had a weird almost gummy texture to me.  I finally gave it away.

Let me put it like this--I bought it, used it once, and gave it away at a natural hair product swap yesterday.

Enough said about the product from my point of view. Just too producty for my routine.

I think I might just have to just give it up and go on with my life.  That stupid green jar just keeps mocking me.   :nyah:

Too gummy for me.  I tried it twice, and I normally give products 5 tries and 2 seasons before tossing.  That ish had to go :)

I love this stuff! Its one of my favorite products. I just took some pics of my hair with this product, but haven't added them to my album yet. I'll do it tonight.

Here's how I use it:

apply leave in conditioner to wet hair, then scoop out a small dallop of scc and rub it between my palms until both palms are white, then apply to hair. I usually apply it to my hair in 4 sections (using a small dallop on each section). I rake it through with my fingers and that's it.

I HTH, but I understand that not every product works for everyone. There are some products that I've tried based on people's raves and they didn't work at all on my hair. good luck! :)

I've not tried it yet, but I usually look for the gummiest stuff, so maybe it's the one for me ;).

I used it for the first few weeks that I've been natural. I love it. It is kind of gummy but I always use Infusium leave in before I put it on and after it dried just a little I added a few drops of jojoba oil and was good to go. I acutally started using the AURA Rosemary Mint Cream Wax and the Fantasia IC gel that everyone talks about and love the both of them as well. I am going to continue to use the Garnier Soft Curl Cream in my rotation. So try to use a leave in first and see if that helps. If not you can do the IC gel or the Rosemary Mint (they are discountinuing this at Sally's so you may be able to find it cheap) they both work well to me. The gel especially. It left me with a nice shine this morning.

Before I began doiny my bohemian routine, this was a great product for me.  The key is to rub it vigorously between your palms, apply, fingercomb on soking wet hair.  It used to create the nicest curls, but it did build up rather quickly.  If I wanted really nice curls for an occasion, I'd use this product.

I have a jar at home , I have used it a couple of times for my wash and go's and braid outs , it makes my hair soft and fluffy.  But the gummy feel kinda weirds me out , i can do without it.

I notice a lot of people do this; what are the effects. I always put stuff straight in my hair so that I don't change the consistency ???.

With the soft curl cream, you have to b/c friction activates the product.  With other things, it makes spreading easier and less product is used.  Rubbing it between the palms gives you just enough to keep the finish natural and not producty.

Whenever I apply anything after a co-wash, I rub it between the palms, rub on hair, spray w water to keep it wet and even, and finger comb.

Thanks for this Jazzi, I had no clue about the friction thing. Maybe it's something I should have been doing with other gummy favorites of mine (I've yet to try SCC).

I  guess it would be more economical to do this with leave ins, too. But I can't help but feel they are  melting into my skin, and that my hands are getting all the true benefits. :-\

The next time i'm not going any where i'll try it again.  I may not be rubbing my hands together enough.  And it's probably about time for me to start applying products in sections.  Thank you so much for your suggestions.  If I can get it to look something other than a Brillo pad I will post the pictures.

Thanks!
