Any reviews on curl junkie and myhoneychild products
« on: May 06, 2007, 11:53:13 AM »
For the longest time i have wanted to try the myhoneychild banananutt conditioner and hate that i didn't get it the last time i was in NC -but thats a whole other story (so far haven't found anywhere in the UK that sells it)

Anyway was looking at curl mart over at naturallycurly.com and was tempted to buy it but figured for the price i'd be paying on shipping i may as well spend some more money, then the curl junkie coffeecoco curl cream caught my eye.

But i wanted to get honest opinions on them I have been using BB products for about 3 months and am very happy with the results so don't really need to try something else in the way of stylers but will give it a go if it's good (Curl Junkie stuff) so has anyone used either of these products and loved or hated them?

I have three Curl Junkie products:

1) CoffeeCoco Curl Creme- I wish it works as good as it smells.  I thought I needed a bit more than average and it didn't give
the nice shiny finish I thought it would.  I also noticed that it didn't "play nice" with other products I have when mixed.
I'm going to try it with a twist out.  We'll see what happens...

2) Hibiscus & Banana Honey Butta Leave-In- So far, so good.  I like this a lot, I am still working on the amount I need with
my particular hair styles, but it feels good on my hair and I like how it leaves my hair soft.

3)  CocoMilk Daily Conditioner - regular ol' conditioner for the price.  It's ok, not $10.00 or $12.00 ok, though...I might be a
    bit on the picky side.

I am still trying to find products that I love, or at least my hair does, and these aren't them, yet...HTH

For Curl Junkie, I can definitely recommend the Hibiscus & Banana Deep Fix. It is *very* moisturizing, though not the most gifted in the slip department.

I didn't like any of the stylers I tried, but I did put the Hibiscus & Banana Honey Butta in my cousin's hair on which it worked beautifully, doing all the things it wouldn't do for mine. I think the difference was porosity-my hair wouldn't "open up" to the product, so I didn't get the benefits that my cousin's more porous hair would.

Since you've posted before about good results with Curls products, you obviously don't have the absorption issues I do, so Curl Junkie stuff might work well for you.

I LOVE CJ Coffee Coco curl creme!  This is the BEST styler on the market, I think (for my hair anyway).  But I have to add a tiny amount of gel over it because it has no hold.

CJ Intense Protection Leave-in Cond. is pretty good too as a styler/curl enhancer (w/ gel added over it).

The 2 CJ sprays did not impress me.  Not bad in any way but I couldn't see any positive effect either.

The CJ Healthy Condition was good and moisturizing but not that slippery.

I love the CJ Banana and Hibiscus Deep Fix and the Guava and Protein Deep Fix.  Great deep treatments!

I didn't care for the CJ Guava and Protein curl creme at all (too softening and not defining or curl enhancing).

I plan to try a couple of the CJ hair oils and the shampoo eventually...and maybe the Give em the Slip conditioner because, overall, I really like this brand of product.  I just have too much other stuff right now.

I've never tried MyHoneyChild products.

If it helps at all, for a point of reference, my hair generally doesn't like most of the Curls products but really likes the Blended Beauty products and DevaCurl One Condition.  My hair is very fine, soft and dryish.

Curl Junkie products used to perform really well, then my hair reached a point where it wouldn't absorb them...so I was left w ashy/dull hair.  I got those results from the Intense Protection leave ins and Guava Curl Creme.  These products are just too rich for me.

The Give em the Slip Conditioner is no greater than V05.

The H&B Deep Fix is really good.

Why do you think this happened? I figured it was just down to my non-absorbing hair, I never thought the results could change over time on the same head of hair. ???

I think it was the change of weather.  They worked really well in the summer, but as soon as fall hit, I got the dull effect.  Then again, my hair changes like that.  The only products I've had consistent results with are Elucence, Sta Sof Fro, and aloe vera.

The CJ BH Deep Fix, very, very moisturizing.

The BH Leave-in, was so, so for me, but it's so thick that I added a little oil to it and used it up as a leave-in/styler, but I got lots of shrinkage, though.

CJ Olive Pomade, works well but the smell leaves a lot to be desired.  I couldn't do it again as I couldn't stomach the smell long enough to finish the container.

Thanks for all the replies this is something i'm going to have to think about, i added all my stuff to my cart and the shipping cost 35 dollars, the actual products i had only came to 25, I don't think I can justify that - fair enough that when i convert it to pounds it's really not that much, but it's crazy to me to spend more on the shipping that the actual cost of the product :-\

Good reviews guys. You've saved me money! I've been eyeing the curl cremes, but if they have no holding properties they're not what I'm looking for.

That was the main turn-off for me.  Shipping is usually equal to or more than the actual products...and I don't think that's the least bit justifiable.

Hibiscus and Banana Deep Fix - very good deep conditioner.  Smells great, absorbs well, leaves hair nice and soft.

Hibiscus and Banana Honey Butta Leave In - gives a gentle hold, smells great, moisturizing

Guava and Protein Curl Cream - didn't do anything a gel wouldn't do, and for a lot less.  Was not the all in one leave in I had hoped it would be.

All the products actually elongate my curls, which is okay if I'm going for that look.  Most days, I want shrinkage.

Are they worth the money?  As much as I would love to give up my first born puppy for the H&B Deep Fix, I won't be purchasing anymore anytime soon.  Yes, I love it, but I love having money even more.  For now, I'm experimenting with products to see what I can make myself.  If that doesn't pan out for me, I may have to take up a second job to get my hair junkie fix :)

@Bubbles-How long does one container last you. I've used it like 3 times and I'm almost done. I like it a lot, but it is getting mixed w/honey, etc. like everything else, otherwise it's just not worth my while. She really needs to come out with the bigger containers. I'm sure she has enough customers to do that, judging from all the hairboard hype.

I forgot to chime in on this one ... But I have used her products extensively.  I think sometimes I do not have patience with products as when I first discovered her products it was from a article in Essence magazine as I was ready to dump Carol's Daughter stuff as to the Hair Milk oil stained my pillow cases when I slept at night so here I order from her after sending the owner Marsha I think her name is a pic of my hair and what I wanted she gave me the recommendations of

poo, Curl Cream, condish .  I tried them but did not really know how to use them, yes i did not. Then I sold them off.   I regretted it as I did not email her back or have patience. so here I go ordered again here is the review

HB Leave In Thick & Luc - awesome, have to use less and use on soaking wet hair and use microfiber towel to blot.  Too much is too heavy.
HB Leave in Fine - Better than T&L  Not as heavy and smooth and curls are really defined

Curl Creams, I could have did without, nice smell but no hold, may have to use with a gel and I do not really like gels that much so I used and not to re-order

Pomade - Olive , k, but the smell was a little too much reminded me of Afro Sheen sort of.
Pomade - Fine, nice but too heavy as to the beeswax so a little goes a long way

Daily Condish T&L  Nice moist
Deep Fix - nice hair that is light
Deep Fix w/ Protien nice but they said that you did not have to use a MB condish after but I tried it both ways, does need some type of moisturizing I felt I was missing something - hummmm
Intense Condish - Fine leave in - Wonderful for my hair have to use soaking wet and blot
Intense Condish - T&L nice when you for a blow out
Hair Oil T&L Excellent for pre-poo or over night pre poo hair is soft
Hair sprays - Curl Fuel and the other one - not worth it, you can make your own or use another

Basically the line is nice but I think a little overpriced.  Once I use up what I have, I prob will wait to order again but better than Carols Daughter.    :)
