Does anyone have experience with...
« on: August 23, 2006, 07:22:47 PM »
Aveda Brilliance Humectant Pomade?  My mom sent me a jar, doesn't smell all that great but if it works, cool.  Let me know if anyone knows about this product.

I use this when I do 2 strand twists or finger coils. Its the only pomade that I will buy again and its lasting me a long time because a little goes a long way and I don't do either of those styles that often.

I used it while I was relaxed and I remember my hair stayed more moisturized with it. I haven't tried it while natural...hmm.

But dangit i'm on Jazzi's challenge :-\

It didn't work on my curly hair, but I used it to flat iron my hair and it worked really well.

I use it from time to time now, before I cut my hair off I use to twist my hair with it and it was a lot more moisturized. :)

I tried almost every Aveda product at least once, humectant pomade was never even close to a HG for me. I think it is supposed to enhance curls as well as attract moisture. I realized  quickly enough (not before purchasing, alas) that it was a lighter, mineral oil-free version of Let's Jam, at like 5 times the price.

I didn't mind the smell, though. I quite liked the signature scents of of the Brilliant line. It used to come in a beautiful blue glass jar. Now they are using some cheapy plastic (the girl at the Aveda counter claimed they changed it because people kept dropping it in their bathrooms ::).

curlycovrgirl, I am surprised it worked for you when flat ironing. I used Let's Jam on my friend's hair, which like I said, is a very similar product, and as soon as the iron hit it, her hair turned into an oily jheri curl and shrunk to half its length.

LOL at your description!  ;D

After my hair was dry, I just put a little of the pomade in each little section before i ran the flat iron over it and it worked really well. made the hair smooth and shiny. It was good, but not great enough that I've purchased it again.  :-\

It's funny that you guys are commenting on the smell.  I bought it in Feb/Mar and returned it the next day b/c of the smell.  The salesgirl was like, really, you don't like the smell???  We never really get that about this product.   ::)

LOL, Aveda stuff is supposed to smell like dirt ;D. It's part of their "natural" image, along with 'cones and parabens. Have you smelled the Elixir? My mother's friend thought someone had left the gas on when I used that stuff. Great detangler, though :).

Thanks for this, curlycovrgirl. I guess the trick might be not to use so much. When my hair can tolerate straightening again, I'll try this w/the Let's Jam.

Yeah, I have the Elixer, too, don't like that smell too much, either.  It doesn't work as well as Elucence does for me, either.  I'm trying to use it all up, though.
