Afro Detangler
« on: August 19, 2007, 06:39:40 AM »
well, i won't say i loved it, but i did like this product a lot.  the instructions state that you have to put your hair in 6-8 braids/twists after applying the product for the first time, and wait for your hair to dry, and THEN add more before detangling.  so it was an involved process and i airdried instead of using a blowdryer.  HOWEVER, detanling was much much easier, and i enjoyed sitting on the couch watching TV instead of standing in the shower with conditioner dripping everywhere. the ends of my hair did stay detangled instead of coiling back up and re-tangling, which was great for combing my hair out and twisting.  my hair does not usually hold twists well, but this product helped my twists stay twistsed wonderfully.  (a few do come loose while i sleep... but no biggie.)  i'd rate it a 4 out of 5, because you can only order a 1/2 gallon online that doesn't ship out for 2 weeks and the aforementioned first time directions.

*i may edit or add to this review when i use Afro Detangler again... ;)

I was thinking about getting this as well and had a talk with Suburbanbushbabe about this as she sampled this

I happen to come across and see that you comments on this, I was thinking of getting this at one time as to the results people were getting but did not want to spend the cash as to the price. I read your reviews maybe I will give it a shot.

I do not really think I will be using this quote as a styler but from reading this it is more to use on protective styles as a moisturizer let me know your feedback on this more.
Thanks

Yes that's exactly how I use it, but I also use it on dry 2nd day hair to touch up the frizzy parts. I was very reluctant to spend $50 on one product, but I really loved what the sample did for me. I think I could even do small twists with this.

My verdict is to be curious and maybe splurge as the ends of my hair gets so dry and my hair is so thick that I want something to detangle and soften.

Thanks

I was expecting this to be really thick and heavy, but it's actually nice and light.  It reminds me of a lighter version of the SheaMoisture Shea Butter Leave in.  It softens, detangles, and adds sheen (kinda in the way that Blended Beauty does)...but has no hold.  Not the best thing I've ever used but not the worst either. I'd never buy the full size b/c I'd never finish it off, plus, this kind of product really doesn't have a place in my routine, but I was happy to finally try it.  It would probably be excellent for someone that did more protective than wet styling.  Good stuff. 4 stars
