Long Aid Curl Activator Gel for Extra Dry Hair
« on: November 21, 2007, 07:07:18 PM »

Ingredients:
Water, Glycerin, Oleth-20, Triethanolamine, Carbomer 940, Aloe Vera Gel, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Protein, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylparaben, Fragrance Parfum, Propylene Glycol, Ext. D&C Violet No. 2

This is the BEST curl activator gel I've tried to date!  You don't need a leave in, just spread some through clean, wet hair and watch your hair clump before your eyes!  It totally eliminates frizz, dries soft and shiny, and you get multiple day hair.  It also makes the hair feel so good!  Results are eerily similar to KCCC and for $1 anywhere hair products are sold!!!!

5 stars

I had to give this product 2 stars. It worked as a good hydrator and superb curl definer just like most activator gels do in my hair. Unfortunately, over time, it did make my hair greasy to the touch. So, as a result, I had to wash my hair at least twice a week in order to help offset this problem.

Hmmmm...I used to use Longaid CAG (with Aloe, like in the photo), matter of fact, it was last summer that I used it.  What I didn't like about it is that it's like most other CAGs for me now, takes too long to dry and it has that CAG smell, I couldn't take it.  I couldn't finish the tub.  It does perform very well, though.  I'll have to give it 3 stars.

ETA: It's hard for me to compare this to KCCC because KCCC gives great multiday hair with little effort.

it has that CAG smell

It actually dries fast in my hair!  It doesn't have alot of hold, but for some reason, I get up to 3 day hair w this.  I'm gonna buy the big jar next time I go to the BSS.

I really think that the reason I can't use curl activator gels anymore is because my hair is so thick and it's getting longer.  I can put a little leave-in only in my hair and if I make my plaits too thick, it won't COMPLETELY dry in 24 hours in my crown.

I did used CAGs solely as my styler for my first year though.  Glad it's working out for you!

I wish!!!!

I give this 5 stars.  I still use this today.  However, I use the one without the protein in it.  This stuff defines my curls and clumps them nicely.  If used alone I get very shiny hair, but if used with a bit of leave-in my hair is left very sheeny.  It leaves my hair very soft and silky feeling.  There is no tack with this one.  The smell is nice to me and I don't mind it at all.  It wears off as the day goes on.  My curls feel luscious and it does not take long for my hair to dry.  If my hair is up I can get 3 good days.  But when worn down, I get 2 great days.  And lastly, it is not greasy.  I was shocked.

I have been using this since 1995.  I had stopped using it for a few years, because I was trying other products and didn't make it back to this one until about a month ago.  And I am in love all over again.  ANd this works better than any other CAG that I have used.  The others leave my hair too moist, dry ends, and very greasy and sticky feeling.  This one is very versatile.  It is a definite staple for me. Plus it is like $4.99 for 32 oz tube.

I'll have to give this one 3 stars.  It has that curl activator "smell" which is a turn off for me.  Also, I tend to be a bit heavy handed with my product, so I did encounter some tackiness which I didn't like (I get no tack using the same amount of Scurl texturizing gel).  But it does make my hair soft and moisturized.  I like this product best when mixed with Fantasia IC clear.

I used to mix mine when I was first using it with a clear gel that was by Let's Jam (RIP since 2000).  And I loved that combination.  Most of the gels now have protein in them, so that eliminates a lot of them for me.  But it is awesome mixed with a gel.  It is like it takes your curls to a WHOLE new level.  I cannot wait until I can find a good protein-free gel comparable to the ECO Styler and then I will be in heaven.

The tackiness is from the glycerin.  It is high on the list.  And if too much is used, the results are not as stellar.

5 Stars!

The best/most moisturizing CAG I've ever used. Soft, clumped spirals popping out everywhere. It works for me in the summer and in the winter (Ohio is always humid).

I use it with a leave-in and castor oil. I was layering it with Fantasia IC gel but after the minor reformulation (Aloe vera is now further down the list), I can no longer layer it with other gels. Since I've started using castor oil, I don't need to layer gels anyway and my hair is more moisturized for it.

New Ingredients:
Water - Aqua , Glycerin , Triethanolamine , Carbomer 940 , Oleth-20 , Methylparaben , DMDM Hydantoin , Disodium EDTA , Hydrolyzed Collagen , Panthenol , Aloe Vera Powder - Aloe Barbadensis , Fragrance - Parfum , Ext. Violet 2 - CI 60730

Results are eerily similar to KCCC and for $1 anywhere hair products are sold!!!!

I know this is an old post, but where did you ever find Long Aid for $1?!?! Everywhere I've seen, the small 10 oz jars are $3-3.50 and the 32 oz jars are anywhere from $5-8.

I like it....I started using it last winter.  It weighs my curls down perfectly and keeps them moisturized.  I also like the way my hair feels after it has dried a bit...so soft and smooth.  I also just re-wet my hair sometimes if I am not washing it to reactivate the gel.  I hope it never gets discontinued or reformulated with unsavory ingredients because it is a great product.
