Ok, so I did this tonight mixing about 2 oz clay and water and spread that through sections of my hair.  I applied in 6 sections and then two strand twisted the sections, hoping to make it easier to rinse out.  I put on my shnuck's plastic bag (I'm out of conditioning caps) and waited 20 mins.  Rinsing was NOT bad really.  I rinsed in the shower using a hand shower and blasted on that massage setting for about about 8 mins,  just to be sure.   All clean and now, I'm like....wow!

My hair is really soft and yes, very defined.  It's clean too. Beautiful...I just love it.  I'm sold!

Thanks to both Morenae and kinkerbelle for your detailed descriptions on how to use this and your experiences with the clay.

Your hair looks great! I just got some rhassoul clay in the mail so I'm gonna give it a try if I can get little ms. fussybooty to take a nap. I loved using anita grants rhassoul but I can't afford to get it all the time.

Good morning everyone! I tried Bentonite Clay last night and I don't think it did anything to my hair! Where did I go wrong? I did it on dry hair that was greasy from different leave-ins and oil. First off, I mixed three tablespoons with water and ACV. It was very hard to mix up so it was very lumpy???. I rub it on my scalp and my hair. Let it sit for 20 minutes and then rinsed out. Followed that my a DC with Coconut Milk under Trader's Joe conditioner. This morning I washed the Coconut Milk and conditioner out. I added to my hair African Royale M.O.M. (Miracle Oil Moisturizer) and QP Mango Butter. My hair is slightly brittle to the touch and not soft at all. I did not notice a difference after I washed the Bentonite Clay out. Any suggestions on what I can do differently???

Thanks in advance

how much clay do you get at whole foods in the $10 jar?

and i think where you went wrong was the ACV rinse..i'm gonna assume it was over kill b/c you combined two cleansing agents into one which in the end stripped your hair to the max..second, you might not have rinsed all the clay out completely if it really dried your hair :-\..third, you might want to try this kind of thing on wt hair possibly...just rinsed hair or something. i cant go back and see what kinkerbelle did it on but maybe thats just something to consider! hope the next go-round if there is another one works out for you!

If I am not mistaken the jar is the same size as KCCC!

I went home on my lunch break and did a 30 minute DC with Honeysuckle Rose (for protein) so I hope my hair is fabolous once its dry! I did that because I was hoping that a protein treatment will help!  ???

The directions read that you can use water and/or ACV. I also looked a few videos on youtube before doing so and their mix was not as clumpy as mine.... maybe next time I will use a blender. I wonder if it is too soon to do it again tonight. To be on the safe side, I will wait til next week or the weekend.

Maybe I should just go back to pressing my hair... it would defeat the purpose of my "new" journey but things weren't as complicated as they are now. I hate my hair now... I am so bored with it!

:o bored with natural hair!! thas crazy lol

i would go to your myspace nd check ya out but i'm at work :-\ but what have you tried to do with your hair since you cut it or since you have been natural period?

but why did you choose protein instead of moisture or something?
&& i wont say pressing hair is bad, but beware of heat damage or you will end up back at square one again :'(

but if you need your hair to grow out a little but then why dnt you get braids or something like kinky twists until you can get some length you can work with?

It sounds like you're doing too much.
I would suggest using just water.  I know what the jar says, but there is no need for that much cleaning action on your hair.   The paste should be smooth,  and if it was hard to mix up you probably didn't have enough liquid.  You want to smooth it through your hair.  Yes, rub your scalp, but no need to do that to your hair.  Rubbing it in makes the paste hard to get out.  CurlyBeauty may be right about there being some leftover paste in your hair.  If there wasn't enough liquid and you rubbed it in it wouldn't be easy to get out (trust me, I know about stuff being stuck in your hair).
You then followed that wil coconut milk and TJ conditioner, and layered it with oil and mango butter.  How can you know that it was the Clay that made your hair brittle?
You might need to do a wash and then co-wash for a while to get back some moisture.  Oil doesn't provide moisture, it just seals it in.  Are you sure that your hair likes oil?
As for you being bored with natural hair... everyone has different interests.  I have been natural for over three years, and while I can be frustrated with my hair, and trying to find a routine that works for me, the challenge of working with what nature has provided me has never left me bored.  But that's what works for me.  You gotta do you.

ITA.  If you're gonna add it to dry hair, you want the paste to be really wet.  If you're applying it to wet hair, it can be drier.

I think you're making it more complicated than it really is.  You don't have do everything or use everything you see on the hairboards.  You've got to keep in mind that mostly everyone on this board has been naturally curly for years, so alot of the stuff we do is a result of trial and error.  You can't just jump into something if you don't know what your hair wants or needs.  I think you should take the time to just get to know your hair...and then after you've figured it out, then probe for new ideas.  You've gotta crawl before you walk.

I've paid attention to your posts the whole time you've been a member here and you seem to be the type of person that wants instant gratification.  With natural hair, it's just not gonna be like that.  It's something you've got to work at.

My advice is just decide what you wanna do.  Do you want to be pressed or do you want to wear your natural texture?  Wearing your natural texture means more investigation of what your hair wants and needs to look its best.  If I'm not mistaken, you have a twa?  That's the easiest part of being natural.  You don't need this clay, protein treatments, or anything of the sort at this stage.  Water and moisturization are really all you need at this point.

Don't let the things that others do to their hair discourage you from learning your own.

CurlyBeauty: I have been natural all my life. In March 2008, I decided that I would not press my hair anymore because I always wanted to wear an afro but never did because the natural scene was nowhere to be found in Greensboro, NC and I didn't know anything about hairboards. In August, to make the long story short, I cut all my hair off! Since I have been completely natural I did WAGs when my have was very short but now gel does not create a single curl in my head (or maybe I am doing something wrong). I did micros once and I have did twistout (of course the professional twistouts are better than my handy work ). I don't know where to go from here as far as styles go. I plan on getting micros or a weave/wig in a few weeks. But that sums it up as far as my hairstyles. I use to co-wash everyday but now it is such a hassle because my hair tangles very easy and shrinkage is a B****!!!

The reason I tried a protein conditon is because after looking at some other boards, I realize that I hadn't done one in a while... maybe never... can't remember! I just assume that maybe it would help  ???

Pixie: Doing to much!  :( I watched a couple of youtube videos yesterday before doing the Bentonite Clay and most of the girls co-washed their hair after the Bentonite Clay treatment. I thought that by adding the Coconut Oil (sorry I said coconut milk earlier) I was doing my hair some good. Maybe I should have put the Coconut Oil on after the conditioner, maybe I should have put it in the conditioner bottle, maybe I should have let it where the hell it was... I don't know... I was just "experimenting!" I left it in over night because my hair did not feel any different than a normal wash plus I thought it would be better for my hair. I used the African Royale and Mango Butter as my styler or better yet to keep my hair from getting dried out today.

How would I know if my hair likes oil or not?

Jazzi: First of all, you are so right... I want what I want when I want it... thats something I need to work on!!!!!!!!! I don't want to go back to pressing my hair but that seems to be easy for me... at least when I had long hair... who knows now!!! I guess know my problem is that I look at you ladies hair and it is so pretty, coily, wavy, etc and my hair just F****** sits on the top of my head.

I don't know what your hair type/texture is. But gel won't make curls where there aren't any. Or maybe you need to mix the gel with something else?

As your hair grows your routine is going to have to be revamped. I promise what worked for you almost 12 months ago won't work for you now.

You have more styles than I do. I can only pull off a WAG

African Royale MOM or the spray? MOM left me with a greasy Brillo pad. I have yet to find a decent leave-in or moisturizer on a bss shelf. QP Mango Butter is good for slicking the hair back. But as a styler I give it two thumbs down like a muth.  :yuck:

I have three words for you, girlie: Trial and error!
