More Indian Store Goodies-Kalpi Tone!
« on: July 30, 2008, 03:25:37 pm »
Wow, Kalpi Tone is the truth!!
This concoction of Indian Herbs is along the lines of Alma or Henna powder, you make it into a paste with water, add a little oil (I put olive oil) and apply for an hour. I used this on Saturday and my hair has been shiny and soft ever since. Next time, I think I'm gonna add it to my conditioner (TJ Nourish) so I can get some creamy detangling action going on. It was only $2 at the Indian store too!!

In comparison to Henna:
Henna did not do right by me :( I tried it 3X and my hair came out super dry, my texture was more frizz than curl and the color was copper-rusty like, instead of the shiny burgundys that I saw in some of the HC member pics.

With this stuff my curls were plump moisturized and defined and it darkened my hair a little (a tiny almost unnoticeable amount), but it corrected the rustyness that I got from henna.

The downside:
Just like henna, mud masks etc...this stuff is messy as hell. I had to tell my boyfriend 1,000 times "Don't worry babe...Im gonna clean it up, Its a hair treatment!!" He thought I lost my damn mind slanging mud all over our bathroom...lol

Has anyone else tried this? What was your experience?!

Ooohhh, that sounds good!  You only had to have it on for 1 hour?  That's what I'm talkin bout.  The 4-5 hour henna session is a pain in the behind.  Can we see before and after pics, please?

Yup, only an hour....I haven't taken any pics, but I'll try to next time I do the treatment. This is more of a DT so the difference in my hair can be felt more than seen. Theres shine but the best part is that my hair feels more mosturized, nourished, stronger etc...

Sounds like a winner to me.  The only reason I henna is to cover my grays, so if I could get them covered and have soft hair afterwards, that would be a holy grail.  Ima have to do some more research on this.  Thanks for the review :)

What do you suggest mixing it with for best results??

Hi,

I have been transitioning for 11 months and started using Kalpi Tone, Amla and Shikakai approximately 3 or 4 weeks ago. My hair is noticeably more thick and shedding is virtually non-existent. Absolutely loving the results!!

I usually use Clairol's Beautiful Beginnings to cover my gray strands but am a little leery about using this while also using the Ayurvedic Powders. Since I am new to the Ayurvedic products, I wanted to ask before taking a chance.

Has anyone used this product line while also using Ayurvedic powders as well? If not, are you using Indigo and Henna to color your hair. If so, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the review on Kalpi-Tone. I have seen it in my local indian market and have not had the guts to try it . Im definitly going to give it a try now. I also got tired of the henna. It made my hair dry, I got tired of the color, and it also took too long to do. Thanks again!
I don't have the audacity to alter the way that God made me and be anything but natural. To be otherwise is to make the statement that He somehow made a mistake.
