it depends.  Greese is made mostly of mineral oil..which is a petroluem product.  IT has the ability to clog the pores on your scalp.  Some people can use greese with no problems.  Some people can't.  If I were you and i wasnt sure, I would stop using it.  You can use a liquid oil that doesn't contain mineral oil (African pride is a good one and it is less than $3).

extremely thick, kinky, coils and curls that have a mind of thier own.

That grease is just exastberating your itches (although you don't know it).  If you have a dry scalp, jojoba oil (as the carrier oil) mixed with a few drops of essential oils like rosemary, lavendar and/or peppermint (a favorite 'cause it's minty and wakes up your scalp) are great.

Here's a link to an more info on mixing carrier and essential oils You are not allowed to view links.Register or Login

.

Grease on the scalp also can prevent growth and prevent natural oils from getting to your hair.

I hear mixing a little tea tree oil into condish and washing your hair with that can help with dry and/or itchy scalps.  Never tried it, though (the only time my scapl gets itchy is if I go more than 5 days without washing my hair...but the OP said "dry" not "itchy" so I digress.)
