What new products have you tried lately?
« on: December 19, 2008, 12:09:11 am »
Hi Ladies,

I've been gone for a minute so I'm totally out of the loop with what's been going on on the boards and anything new you've tried.  What products, good/bad/ and everything in between, have you tried in the past few months or so?  Reviews please!  :)

I hope I get the name correct, but I am loving the Qhemet detangling Ghlee.  It is amazing if you get tangles post washing.

I am also trying some new (to me) products by hairveda , but I can't post results just yet.

Glad to see you back on the boards Jazzi

Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Milk is hot on all the boards right now. I have been using it as a leave-in for the past couple weeks and it's worth the hype IMO. It's moisturizing and detangling. I seal it with castor oil and gel and I get 4-5 day (loose) hair that stays moisturized and defined. All I do is fluff out and go in the morning.

I recently cave to my previous objections to Blended Beauty and I'm sold!  I've been using the Down and Out Styles, Soft Curls and Swirls, and Butter me up.  Any one of those under my Elasta QP Feels like silk and its a GREAT hair day!!!  I've gotten up to 6 days of OUT hair (no puffs or buns) and it has stayed moisturized, and soft.  Like PeaJai, I just wake up, spritz a tiny bit, fluff and i'm out!

I've also revisted the Elasta QP DRR-11 as a deep conditioner.  Mixed with oils, honey, coconut milk....its the SHIT.  It does have mineral, but IMO, its STILL one of the best DT's that I've used in a while.

I also recently tried Miss Keys Aloe and Avacado DT and its really thick and creamy.  No Petro, no cones...with some heat it is DEVINE!!

I just got some jessicurl cleansing cream and too shea in a swap and I can't WAIT to try those out as well.

As far as what's hot on the boards...like PJ said...Karens Body Beautiful hair milk seems to be all the rage....but I havn't tried it myself.  Also, another rage seems to be over Donna Marie Products (if you remember, the owner used to be a member here and she's the one that posted the fake results of her products).  From what's being reported, these chicks are going gaga over the products.  Again...havnt tried em...not sure if I will.
extremely thick, kinky, coils and curls that have a mind of thier own.

I just ordered the Qhemet samples and will probably order Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Milk.  I'll report back.  My daughter and I have "opposite hair"; things that work for me, rarely work on her and vice versa...so between the both of us, maybe we'll have a couple of winners.  I'll report back.  I also bought a bottle of grapeseed oil (suburbanbushbabe used to rave about it so I figured I'd give it a try) but it will be a couple of weeks until I'm ready to open it.

@Peajai, I wanted to try the KBB Hair Milk, but wasn't overly impressed with the other 2 items I tried from her line.  I've heard good things about that product, but I know the emulsifying wax won't agree with my hair :(

@Nappy_Crown, the DPR-11 is something I've been wanting to try for years...I guess I will sooner or later.  I have the Jessicurl shampoo and I really like it.  Too Shea is nice too.

Also, another rage seems to be over Donna Marie Products (if you remember, the owner used to be a member here and she's the one that posted the fake results of her products).

:lmao:  You know I remember that!  Miss Embrya is a fool

I tried:

Sizta2Sizta Moisture Packed Conditioner: It's actually pretty good... great slip and moisture...as a rinse out or leave in.

Sizta2 Sizta Deep Penetrating Conditioner: Not as much slip and moisture as the other, but still a decent rinse out/leave in.

Robert Craig Conditioner: Fantastic leave in, so-so rinse out.

TIGI Oatmeal & Honey: Favorite protein rich conditioner.

Motions CPR Leave in: With some oil, makes a pretty wash n go.

Carol's Daughter Hair Balm: For dry styles like box braids, cornrows, braidouts, etc. this gives off a high octane shine...don't try it on wet hair though!

You know I've been waiting on someone to try the Sizta 2 Sizta products...but i havn't seen any reviews...and I literally just purchased the LaPhoono cleansing conditioner wash and had my finger on the other conditioner (the moisture packed).  I'm going to have to give it a try when i get a chance.   It looks really interesting...contains tea tree, rosemary and neem oil....and only $4.50 a bottle.  I really like her prices for her stuff...i know as SOON as she blows up, those prices are going to jump as well....but I'm hoping that they don't.

I've heard a lot of people raving about the Robert Craig conditioner...glad you like it!

You'll like that Moisture Packed Conditioner for sure.  If it doesn't wow you for rinse out, I know you'll love it for leave in.  I even sent her an email showing my appreciation for the low prices... but it seemed like I was bothering her with my email and she wasn't as responsive as I thought she should be...so I haven't bought shit else.  Oops, did I say that out loud?  :-X

I tried the Karen's Milk and it was too oily for me.  My dau loved it, but it left me with a lot of oily residue.  What I love about Qhemet is that my hair drinks it up, I actually have to reapply it (AOHC).

I have been using the Cantu, but I am not sure if it is really working for me.  I am still working on getting my mositure back form the strip trip.

Dr. Bronners lavendar coconut oil hair creme, it's nice lightweight styler but not enough moisture on it's own, also it's more amilk type product than acreme.

Cassia: I prefer it to henna. It gives smoothness, and a nice heaviness to the hair. The effects only last a couple weeks though. Henna seems to give more strength, too.

Amla: I didn't like it. It's a great exfoliant, since it works by dissolving the keratin layers on the surface of your skin, and it sems like it was doing the same thing to my hair. >:(. I used it full strength and mixed in conditioner and I'm not convinced. :pout:

Giovanni Vitapro Fusion: For a spray, I was pleasantly surprised, as they don't tend to give my hair any moisture, but this does. A very light, smoothing coating, good for reviving multiple day hair. It adds shine, too. Something that Giovanni Direct (which some people find is like a more concentrated version of it) doesn't really do.

Rice Bran Oil: I've been using this after nappy_crown's recommendation a few months back. It's done A LOT of good for my hair in DTs. Like most oils I can't leave it in but it really adds sheen to my hair  and lubricity to my  weekly treatments.

ITA.

I tried Dairy Whip and I'm impressed.  It's one of the first soap-based shampoos I've tried that didn't leave my hair feeling coated (yuck!) or parched.  It has a great consistency and smells NICE!  I haven't seen any reviews from people with kinky-curly hair, so I thought you may be interested.

KBB hair milk, I can't use it every day and only use 2 squirts at a time or my hair is overly soft. I want to try the super silky but I don't have the money for that right now.

Curl Harmony scalp cleanser and conditioner thanks to Curly4life.
it's a company based here in the UK and I'm surprised I didn't know about them, I'm really liking the results I get but not overly keen on the smell.

In terms of styling Products I'm still happy with Blended Beauty and am slowly coming round to the new scent, wouldn't go as far as to say I like it but I find it less offensive than I did at first. I do think the products have changed though, especially the soft curls and swirls it's a totally different consistency. But saying that, as much as I don't like the new smell the small changes in the products seem to be working well for me

I have a smaple of this that i've been meaning to try.  I got it in a swap over on NC.com.  The ladies there have been RAVING about it...but like u said...I havn't heard to many women with 4a and higher hair talking about it.  I was actually scared to use it cause I didn't want it to strip my hair too much...but I think I'm going to give it a try when my finish my current bottle of shampoo.
