I'm just gonna say that HappyCurls is the fairest hair board I've come across.

It's amazing the kind of discussions you can have when you don't treat your members like children.

Oh, and another taboo subject is white women with mixed kids who don't do their hair. LAWWWWDD that urks me! I remember I was watching that new show "The Game" and the white chick with the mixed daughter was arguing with a black woman on the show. And the black woman straight told her "Im gonna need for you to learn about black haircare so you can comb your child's head. Got her walking around here looking crazy". I WAS LIKE NOOOOOO she did not go there!

But then the white girl got her back, talkin about "What would you know about black hair? Your hair is korean".

ZING!!!!! Black lady couldn't even say nothing after that.

Afrocurls, they don't do their hair cuz the can't-at least not until they find me on the hair aisle in Walmart or Sally's. They must roam around the store waiting for the "non-assuming black woman who looks like she knows something about hair" to stroll by :lmao:

I feel so bad for the chirren(yes I love the kids) that I try to help as much as I can-poor things, you can see on their faces that their overwhelmed.

What really urks me is black women with black children who say they can't do their hair. That's just triflin'.

Why do so few black women on the curly board circuit admit that they have a texturizer? Even when it's completely obvious and overprocessed, they still refer to their hair as "natural?"

I won't name names. :P

I guess I'll join Afrocurls' choir and Amen that one!  That's beyond ridiculous to me!  People act like we've never had a perm and don't know one when we see it!  Get out of here w that, please!

Riddle me this...

What's the point of piling all these products on top of one another?  I mean really?  I know different heads, different methods...but does it really take all that?

ETA: no offense to anyone that does this, but this has always baffled me, even as a permie.

Bubbles,

Believe it or not, my stylists who likes to fry up some hair, told me he wouldn't texturize me bcuz it's too inconsistent with the different textures in my head. I should tip him better  :)

And the little girls mom was another race & she may not have know how to deal with it better, then to, when my baby was 6, she had alot of beautiful hair and her stepmom brought her back to me with a bone-straight perm cuz she didn't know how handle it(yes I did at least buck up-we're cool now though).

Black women need to learn how to take care of their children's hair.  However, women of another race who marry black men who think they are going to have babys REALLY need to learn how to take care of black children's hair.   Because they know that WE are going to be looking at them crazy :)  And the majority of the time, the hair is going to be different.  There are TOO many resources out there to claim ignorance.  Of course, to be fair, many of those resources suggest relaxers and texturizers.

Owwwwwwwwweeeeee.

Well I admit when I first went natural back in 96' I wore a texturizer because I did not know how to deal with my natural hair.  I would break combs trying to comb it out because I was trying to comb it like I still had a relaxer.  I would not wash it, it would get matted.  It was a mess. So I put one in about twice a year for 2 years then I got a relaxer and then I did another bc about 4 months after.  I stopped using them  in 1998 because I did not see the purpose anymore and I had a better grip on dealing with my natural hair.  Yeah I can spot a texturizer in a minute because I was a user.

i think it's just experimentation. seeing what combinations work well...at least that's how it is with me sometimes. i don't have drama in my life. my excitement comes from playing with my hair!

i must not know what a texturizer looks like because i assumed everyone has naturally curly hair unless they explicitly say otherwise.

i have no questions for now, but i like this thread!  ;)
trying to catch up after being m.i.a. for 2 years. dang, there are a lot of posts!

I'm learning not to take it personally when other people's crazy is showing...it's not my problem.

Nothing wrong w experimentation Nat.  But I think some are doing a little more than that.  Wash and pile is a purpose defeater IMO.  It's like having an intense workout, then afterwards, go to the BBQ shack to pig out on a rib tip/chicken wing combo, w potato salad and spaghetti.  If you're gonna eat all that, why work out?   :-\
I didn't get it relaxed either.  I would wash, condition, apply my paul mitchell pomade and wrap.  My friend, on the other hand, would wash, condition, leave in, setting lotion, oil, gel, mousse, oil sheen...then finally get under the dryer.  I'm like damn!  You need to wash it again after all that!  :-X
I just don't get it!

Oh, if you ever had a relaxer, but still wore the wet look, that's how a texturizer looks.  A stringy straight hot damn mess  ;D

Eta: Please don't be mad at me ladies, I'm keeping it real in this thread.

I like this thread. I'm fairly new to really learning my hair and how to best care for it. Thank you all for your patience and support (even with my fotki drama) This board seems to be more welcoming and give you a quicker answer. I usually post the same thread on here as I do the other board and I get quicker, better quality answers here even though the other board has many more members.

 see, that's why i don't work out!

and i hope no one gets offended by this thread. this kind of thread does have the potential to do that if it were on another board (and i'm not talking about any specific other board). i just know that the peeople on here are sincere and wouldn't say anything just for the sake of being mean or hurting anyone. i think it's giving people a chance to say something they may have been afraid to say previously, and it's also letting others know that they a) might have been doing something wrong and should think about changing that, or b) might have been doing something right or feeling something justifiable but they hadn't been sure since no one really talks about it on hair boards

I don't think all texturizers look like a stringy mess though just the overprocessed ones.

Lisa Nicole Carson had a texturizer during her time on Allie McBeal according to her hairdresser.

And I'm pretty sure Scary Spice had/has one too.

So they don't all look bad, I just don't understand the motivation to lie about it. But then again, people with texturizers are always getting dogged out...so maybe that's why.

Do people with texturizers get dogged out that bad for real?  I can't tell a texturizer from somebody's natural hair.  In my opinion, neither can a lot of people.  I've had people ask me if my hair is texturized.  People that have seen my fotki know damn well if this was a texturizer then..um..well it didn't take.  My ish is too thick :)

WHY do people spend so much time tripping off whether it's a texturizer or weave?  I think it's because some people try to lie about having that "good hurr".  ITA w/ Anika.  Just keep it real.   By the way Anika, when I did see your hair for the first time, I didn't know it was a texturizer.  I am a complete hair illiterate.  I know more about my hair now than when I was relaxed.

Sorry, I'm turning this into the rambling thread.

And what is a lacefront?  Can someone show me a picture?  Is it a wig of some sort?  What makes it different from other wigs that it has its own designation?
