As a somewhat newbie to actually caring and learning about my hair, I am out of the loop on a lot of the terms. This often makes me hesitant to post. I think it may be very helpful to have a pinned thread with commonly used terms and things of that nature. If there is one and I missed it, I apologize.

@chelacious...another thing on Andre's system...it's his system, he didn't define a 3c in his system.  If you're gonna use it, use it, either you are 3b or 4a, that's what his system said...lol.

@jazzi...I said it to you a million times, I appreciate the advice that you and other ladies have given during my natural hair journey.  I wouldn't have a clue what to do if it weren't for guidance from others.  So, I'm not saying you haven't been helpful and I'm definitely not knocking the advice of other naturals either.

At first, when I BC'ed, Portae's advice re: Paul Mitchell's Foaming Pomade saved my life!!!  Later, I had to use a little leave-in under it.  Later, I used a leave-in  only(more than I needed) and I did cut back on the amount of leave-in I used when I ran into your bohemian thread on NP and that gave great results as well.  As my hair grew, a leave-in wasn't enough most days, so I used tried gel over it (under the influence of some other fotkis that I visited).  Regular styling gel was too much so I moved to Curl Activator gel (Curliocs' influence) and basically did this up until a few months ago.  Now, I'm on to the best routine of my experience, a leave-in and cream styler (influenced by Mistytee, spiral and shygirl).  In my journey, I've tried the cones/sulfates, no poo and low poo and determined that low poo is best for me.  Following carmennc's footsteps, I decided that fingercombing daily would be good to try, and it works like a charm for me.  Natitiwsits and superstar from NP inspire me to try different styles.  I appreciate all of these ladies and you too jazzi.   But there are a lot of women who are just missing out on the experience and the knowledge that they can gain from others because they are stuck in the lies of haircare, feeling inferior to others.  I don't think we are helping them by making them feel ostricized for being relaxed/texturized, etc.

That's my only point.

I see what you're saying Keepitmovin and I apologize.  I know what you mean.  I will work on that.  I never want to make anyone feel unincluded b/c this thing is a journey, and everyone isn't in the same place.  Beyond that, it really is about what works for an individual.  :rose:

misssuperdiva you are reading my mind b/c I've been thinking of creating a "Common Terms" thread and pinning it to help the newbies and old-schoolers w the terminology.

I don't lurk here, but there are hair boards where I do (I don't spend a lot of time there).

Sometimes it's about figuring out what the atmosphere of the board is.  Some places are very open with newbies, some places tend to act as if newbies should automatically know everything there is to know about natural hair.***  If I sense that I'll get attitude for asking a question I just look up what I need and leave.  Some boards can be very intimidating for newbies.

Sometimes I lurk because I don't have anything to say, but am just looking for a different perspective (if that makes sense).

***:  When people on boards shut newbies down it is a major pet peeve of mine.  Some people act like it's a crime that someone hasn't read every post ever posted before they ask a question.

I totally agree Pixie!  We try to keep the atmosphere friendly for a reason.  With the exception of this thread of course

This isn't taboo, but I wonder if celebrities browse our board and albums?  Sometimes, I wonder who's watching.  As much props as we give to them, I wonder if they ever take our advice...

I wonder why hair boards always got something to say about Beyonce and her hair.

BEYONCE AINT NEVER GOING NATURAL IN THIS LIFETIME. AND LUCKY FOR YOU, IF SHE NEVER DOES, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR HAIR.

Jesus Christ. Broads be acting like Beyonce and her lace fronts are the Anti-Christ. Analyzing and inspecting every closeup shot, ragging on her because she "doesn't wear her natural hair out".

SO WHAT?!

Once again, broads need affirmation about their own hair decisions. ::) I'm sure they'd pee on themselves with glee if the most (current) popular black entertainer in the world wore her napps out, BUT SHE AINT DOIN IT. Unlike all of us who work a normal job and live a normal life, she sells an image that she has to uphold. She aint got time to be nobody's nappy fantasy. Give up the dream.

Oh this drives me crazy too.  It takes time to figure out how to use all of the functions and people may not realize this.  I saw a board were people were so mean to her she said she was never coming back.

What I hate about people coming down in newbies is as follows:
(1) People gotta understand that not everyone even knows how to use a message board.  The first time I started using a message board was on techie sites, then hair boards.  But it was all around the same time, so I had a lot to learn.
(2) Not everyone wants to wade through 50 pages of "how can I do xyz with my hair" when they are dealing with "xyz" right at that time and crying their eyes out, with a straightening comb in one hand and a perm in the other.
(3) Not every newbie has a "feel" for the board yet, so they don't know how to censer their speech yet.  Yet, old heads see that newbies have made 5 posts, they jump all on them.

I try to give real answers first and then post links.  I hate when people just post links.

There you go bubbles76 I found some for you.  You have to attach them (the lace front of the wig) with some kind of adhesive.   They are supose to look more natural than regular wigs.

So...is there lace in the front?
