Ladies, what is your spring/summer attire?
« on: May 12, 2009, 07:11:17 PM »
I'm in LOVE with maxi dresses.  They are very Comfortable
and Cute!!  I wear them with a crop denim jackets, shrugs
or cardigan's...

What I like about them is, you could dress them up with the right accessory or down.
I also love the maxi skirts!!!!
They're very cute with a tee and belt OR a cami and blazer...

These items will be in rotation for the entire spring/summer months...Lol
I'm a Curly, Coily, and Wavy Natural Diva!!!!

Those maxi dresses are cute!  But some of them are a little too "concealing" IMO.  I don't like showing everything but I'm not trying to be completely covered in yards and yards of loose fabric, either.  I'd have to be very picky w/ the cut if I planned on being happy w/ it.

I do love your idea of dresses w/ cropped denim jackets, tho.  A fav look of mine.

I need to hit the stores soon!  It's only been warm here like two days so far so I haven't really started thinking about summer clothes.  I have bought a few pairs of sandals:

and a very high pair of "Fergilicious" yellow platform wedges that I can't find a picture of.

Every summer, I feel like I have nothing to wear. I'd love to wear more maxi dresses, but either I can't find any good ones in plus size or they are not maxi on me (5'11'" and if they are not long enough, they stop at an unflattering mid-calf)?! The one that I do have, is so voluminous at the bottom, it feels like I'm carrying around my own personal tent.  :(

I did pick up a couple of cute casual sleeveless dresses in blue and black from LB (to wear with leggings) and a nice crochet shrug from the Avenue. But I am still looking to fill out my casual summer wardrobe.

Target has some cute maix's that will be the perfect length for you, because they are long...
I had to pass on a few that I really liked, because they were too long for me...Lol
I'm plus size as well...
Since they are popular there are quite a few stores that carried them...(Old Navy, Kmart, Sears, Ashley Stewart,
Macys, Nordstrom, Lane Bryant, New York and Company, JCP...etc)

Some of my maxi's are very low cut, but when I want to tone it down; I wear it with a cami..
Otherwise, I love showing my girls..  :)
I've also gotten quite a bit of tunic's that I'll wear with crop leggings and strappy sandals.

Did you see the cute crochet crop shrug from Lane Bryant?
It came in 3 colors, but now they only have black online..I got it in white..

Love the brown and black pair, but I hate ordering shoes..That's something I have to try on, becasue
my feet are very narrow..
So far I've gotten quite a few pairs from Nordstrom and Nine West..

Finding the right maxi is key..but they are flattering!
DH and I are taking a few mini trips and they will be perfect to pack and wear..Lol

I'm loving the maxi dresses too!!!  I wore one to work today with a cropped denim srug!

PJ....check out OldNavy.com....they sell plus sizes on line and thier maxi dresses are LONG (I just brought one and I have to wear heels or it drags the ground.

I'm sooo glad that maxi dresses are in style this summer...becuase since I had my last DVT, I have to wear this compression stocking on my leg and it looks like an ace bandage....and I'm very self concious about it.  So last summer I wouldn't wear any capris, shorts, or dresses/skirts (unless it was around the house/family).  As you can imagine...I was miserable!!  So the maxi dresses are a nice alternatve for me.
extremely thick, kinky, coils and curls that have a mind of thier own.

This summer my primary concern is building a better professional wardrobe for warm weather. I have  a couple of suits and separates that I mix and match but the colors are mostly medium to dark - when it comes to fashion I'm really a fall/winter kind of girl and I've never really as much thought into my spring/summer wardrobe. I'm trying to buy more colorful slacks and jackets/boleros/shrugs instead of my usual grey, brown, or black.

As far as maxi dresses go, I'm more interested in making my own than buying some. There are great DIY websites that have super easy fashion tutorials.... I've been kinda slack on the sewing/crafting thing so this will be my summer project.  :)

Yay!! I never thought to check Target.com. They have some great plus-size maxis, mistytee!

And thanks for the heads up, NC! OldNavy.com did not have those maxi dresses last time I checked.

I'm excited!  ;D I have some shopping to do.

Go girl! I'd love to see the finished result. I have always had dreams and aspirations of making my own clothes. But I still take every little torn seam and minor alteration to my grandmother for fixing.  :-\

Inside Target's store they have a lil more than online..
And Old Navy just replenished on their maxi's online..
Also, New York and Company XL is an 18 and their maxi's are flowy,
so check them out...

Plus-Sized ladies who wear Maxi dresses, are you top heavy?  Is the dress flattering on your buxom figure?  I think those dresses are really cute and summery, but I'm a 44H.  I may look as if I'm wearing a mu-mu.  :'(

I'll get back to you once I try some of the dresses they have suggested. I wear a size BAT (big ass t*tties) bra but the most flattering dresses on me fit snugly around my bust and flow out in an A-line from it. I'm actually wearing this blue knee-length dress today:

And the maxi version looks as though it would be flattering as well (although I could have done without that ruffle hem).

LMAO@ BAT! Girl, for years I thought I wore a 46DDD.  Went and got measured for a bra last year, found out I needed a 44H.  I always wondered why my bras were never quite right.  Now that I'm wearing the right size, my clothes look better on me and my back feels a hell of a lot better!

Anyway, I'm loving the 1st dress you posted.  Dresses made that way tend to look good on me, but I'm scared of the long dresses.  I'll be on the lookout Peajai!

Jazzi, try a few on, because they are flattering!!!!  I thought the same by being plus size...
I'm a 42D in regular bra's and 44D in my push up bra's and both types of bra's look nice
when wearing the maxi's dresses.

Peajai, I saw that maxi dress in LB...

I have quite a bit of maxi's, but here are a few links to the ones I've purchased..

(The model does this maxi no justice!!!!  When I saw it in the store, I decided to try it on...Very flattering..
I wore it with a black crochet shrug, long purple and silver necklace and black sandals.  The dress is
casual, but with all my casual dresses I dress them up with a shrug or cardigan and accessories.  It gives
them a total different look)
