hmmm... by this person's standards, i am thrown back into the 3c category because my hair curls with or without product.  oh wait... the canopy of my hair will be frizzy instead of defined so... it is now 4a?  and the BACK is 3c because it curls without product, even though it's a kinkier tighter curl than the canopy?

yeah so this didn't really help me at all  although i could easily type my son as a 5a on this system.

I'm still 4a in this system too!   It seems a lot like Fia's system (but a bit less streamlined), and expanded for kinky/nappy hair.

I understand she did this to be helpful, but I really feel like Naani could have found something better to do with her time.

How is this helpful? What good does it do knowing you're a 5a rather than a 4b or whatever.  :-\ I only skimmed over these 9 pages. I just don't understand the point.

Unless she is going to start marketing some hair products to the specific types that she has outlined, this is useless information to me.

According to this system, I am...still not sure, parts of my hair are curly and others are kinky...ok that's it, so my hair is curly and kinky. The front and back is curly and the sides are kinky...I think the middle crown of my hair falls into the category of coarse and not kinky, I have small waves but they will fall down(not afro type)

type 3c 4amk

To go even farther, my 3c hair is medium strand with some coarse stands in it and is K as far as volume

my 4a hair is medium strand with some fine stands in it and n as far as volume.

I guess this system is okay
Excuse me, I'm allergic to bullsh*t, could you step away

I tried to read all of it, but my eyes started glazing over.

I'm not sure what the point is when your hair typing doesn't really tell you what works for your hair.

I just skimmed through the pages, she had too much to say. I didn't find it that helpful either.

Well, I think when it comes to posting on hairboards, this information can be helpful...to the degree of finding people with similar hairtype.  Every person who frequents hairboards doesn't necessarily post pictures, so being able to use a figure in place of a photo helps.  Hair typing is only bad when people use it as a caste system, otherwise, it makes it easier to understand your hair.

What I like most about this particular system is that it breaks hair down by more than just a number and a letter...it gives very detailed information about the why's and how's.  I find pages 4, 5, and 6 of this article especially interesting b/c it breaks down hair in a way I've never seen before.  It discusses the structure of the hair.

Now I've been natural a very long time and have moved far beyond hair typing in the sense that most use it, but I do think this article makes sense.  There's a reason you and I can both have 4a hair but our hair may look nothing alike or may not respond similarly to the same things.  This article delves deeper into why that happens by breaking it down in a way that makes it easier to understand.
