You, Hair Companies, Are Late!
« on: June 04, 2009, 11:36:54 AM »
Can I just comment right quick about how hilarious it is to see mainstream haircare products jump on the "sulfate free" bandwagon?

I have seen commercials for at least THREE products (including one informercial for the WEN product line) all in the last week that brag about having sulfate-free shampoos. Can we all commisserate and laugh at these companies being at least 3-5 years LATE on this concept? I've been co-washing for 4 years!

I guess the hairboards really are on the cutting edge! :lmao:

Have you all seen them?

They're tyring to get that curly dollar!  and Alot of cone-ridden products have been reformulated to accommodate the needs of curly heads.  3 years ago you couldn't go into Target and have options...it was either Suave or V05.  Now, just about everything is "curl friendly."  Companies know women are bandwagon hoppers...and sulfate-free, silicone-free, organic is the lick right now!

yeah, Jazzi that's exactly what it is!  They are probably losing out on a lot of money with us buying up conditioner to wash our hair with and not shampoo + conditioner or even just shampoo.  I think some of these companies are also trying to get slick with design and packaging.  Sometimes I swear when I go shopping for conditioner I have to always double check and triple check the bottle now and actually READ it (as opposed to just going to the shelf, picking up the bottle and not paying close enough attention) to make sure I have conditioner and not shampoo.  There have been a few close calls when I've been out because both shampoo and conditioner bottles look the same.

I thought about how they were late on this concept a while ago....and especially when I saw the wen infomercial last year and then the Loreal commercial with Eva Longoria in it this past winter.  And then for them to front like it's a new concept they JUST thought of yesterday.   ::)  Please!

they are probably paying more attention to these hair boards than we think they are.

A few months ago I went to Kroger and they have this bin near the back of the store where they sell stuff that has been marked down and I bought 12 bottles of conditioner....2 bottles of this stuff and then assorted varieties of the pink and red bottles.  It was marked down from damn near $4.00 a bottle to $1.20/bottle so I HAD to get it.  And Loreal is not cheap, okay????

but for real, that hydra gloss moisturizing conditioner is the truth....

carry on ladies!

yeah that was it ;D you got a good deal too!

i've never tried it cuz i thought, "well shoot i can add my own honey to any conditioner" but, it does make me curious.  i tried Herbal Essence's conditioner... that one that they say promotes longer hair?  i'm too lazy to look it up right now :-[ it wasn't too bad either.  but guess what, the special ingredient is silk amino acid.  lah-tee-dah, i can add that to my V05 too.

i know, i know... the average person doesn't order SAA online and add it to their homemade conditioner concoctions.  i'm just sayin ;)

LadyLibra, where do you get your SAA from?  I've been meaning to ask you that for a hot minute but I always get sidetracked.

Are you talking about Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship?  I've never tried that one.  I bought two of the big bottles of Hello Hydration from Sam's last summer and diluted it with water to co-wash with.  It was aiight....nothing to write home about in my book.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thanks, LL!  I will check that site out.  I think I've heard of it before a few times, just never went there and checked it out to see what all they have to offer.  That's interesting about the HH working out for your sister's (relaxed) hair.

(kinda) offtopic: Whenever I get a conditioner that sucks I just dilute the heck out of it and use it as a cheap co-wash shampoo.  Either that or I doctor it up with better ingredients to save it.  Right now I have two of those gallon size jugs of Honey & almond salon care conditioner from Sally's.  They were about $7.00 each.  Not so great alone, so it's functioning for me as a co-wash conditioner until I can figure out how to save it for other purposes.  Or I might just use that one as a co-wash conditioner.  It makes my hair feel really weird and tangled and matted together after a wash.  I think I will start washing my hair in thick braids to cut down on that and really get to my scalp to make sure it isi clean.  After all, that's what the wash is for anyway.

Thank you for that infoShortycocoa!  I've been eyeing that conditioner forever but never bought it b/c I'd hate to have that much if it sucks.

you're most welcome, Jazzi!  They have other Salon Care formulas, I just got that one because of course we know that honey is good for our hair.  But something about it just makes my hair feel funky after a wash and it takes twice as long to detangle (as if it wasn't already taking long enough, right????) when i follow up with the conditioning conditioner.  I can't remember the names of the other ones I saw when I was there.

Don't know if they're just as bad as the Honey & almond or worse.  I was using it mostly to wash my twists when I had them in these last two weeks (i barely made it, ya'll...took my hair out last thursday night/early friday morning) and my hair in a lot of places (the roots especially) the hair was loose and it felt lightly matted at the roots even though i braided a few stitches at the roots to prevent that problem, so I'm lost on that one.  My hair was also stuck together near the bottom portion of some of the twists so I know it was the conditioner.

I'm feeling a little bad about having all of that, but I'm gonna see if I can save it like i said earlier and make it do what it do....or either find another use for it like to shave with or something. :lmao:
