Before there was the Curling Custard, Kinky Curly made a product called "Jojoba Jelly" that people loved. But, like all good things it was discontinued and replaced with the Custard.

Since then, there's been a myriad of Jojoba Jelly recipes. So, let's revisit:

Jojoba Jelly Recipe:
4oz LOTD AVG (Lily of the Desert)
1oz Jojoba oil
1oz Veggie Glycerin
1/4 tsp Xantham Gum

Other recipes substitute glycerin with agave nectar or even honey.

I think the secret to KCCC's performance is it's mucilage - that sticky snot/mucous sort of quality. Aloe has mucilage, and so does flaxseed gel and Irish moss. So playing around with those may yield something similar too.

Because Smooth n Shine now uses proplyene glychol in it's ingredient list  >:(, I went back to the last one that doesn't, Long Aid (regular preferred).  I have started modifying it though.  I've added flax seed (the snot factor), aloe gel, saa, and sodium lactate.  So far, so good.  I don't know what KCCC is like, but from what I've read, it seems similar.

Mo, I've been intedning on trying that recipe ever since Gypsycurls made it popular.  Her hair reminds me of mine and her results were nice.  Have you tried this mix?  I do remember the Jojoba Jelly and I liked it more than KCCC.

Chel, that mix sounds great too!  I've added flax/aloe to CAG before with great results.  The other stuff you mentioned, is it available on the ground?

I'm realizing that anything in gel form that's high on glycerine is gonna create the KCCC effect: Extremely defined hair with high shine and hold.  I can't believe I thought I could only get those results with that product.

The Jojoba Jelly recipe is excellent, except I haven't tried adding xantham gum - which would probably make it even better by thickening it and giving it a stickiness like glue.

I think I bought the SAA and Sodium Lactate from online.  But once you buy it once, it lasts a while, because you're adding a small amount of ingredients to the product you're mixing.

For the adventurous kitchen-ticians, here's a premade natural gel base that has some of the same ingredients as KCCC:

I'm sure you can doctor this up to be just like KCCC (pr better!) with a little experimentation.
