I think I found a new love: "African Formula Supergrow Gel"

This stuff is GOOD. The hold is incredible and the ingredients are wholesome. It cost me $6.00 for a 4oz jar (about $1.50 per ounce). The store where I bought it also sold it in a giant tub. The texture is almost like a new jar of hair grease, but the product is not greasy. Jazzi compares it to "Elasta QP Glaze or Let's Jam, but a bit firmer."

AND supposedly, according to internet gossip, there is another gel similar to it called "My Gel" made by a competitor who used to work for the company. The other gel is made by Joie Naturals ( You are not allowed to view links.Register or Login

) and seems to have good ingredients and prices too. Gotta love the internet!


If you're in NYC, I bought the gel on 125th street at the BSS near the D train. It's on the lower shelf opposite the cashier.

Well, it's unlike the texture of any product I currently use - not a cream, not a grease. It's a gel, but it's not cold, wiggly and slimy like one. Jazzi compares it to Elasta QP or Let's Jam, which are somewhat balmy. The best way I can describe it is a mixture of Vicks Vapor Rub (which is like a salve) and a hair gel (which is jelly).

It's somewhat thick and a bit sticky (which is why it gives good hold and definition), but it spreads well so it doesn't leave clumps in your hair (unlike a cream like Happy Nappy or Milkshake). And it's not wet and slimy like regular gels or KCCC, so it's not drippy and messy.

I'm so glad you like it Morena!  I'm running low so my sister is gonna have to restock me    It's the best stuff in the world for holding the hair back...and you don't feel guilty about using it b/c the ingredients are great!  Ponytails, pinups, frohawks, cornrows,...any style that requires smoothing...this gel does it.
