I have been natural for 3 years and felt that I didn't need a deep conditioner, until I started surfing kinky-curly web sites.  After going over the pros and cons I decided that maybe I would give my hair a treat and try the most accessible and inexpensive one that my kinky-curly contemporaries reccommended~ Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing Pak.  After co-washing, clarifying and detangling with my Denman D3 comb I worked the sweet smelling cream into my curls with a little extra EVOO, donned my conditioning cap and hit the bonnet dryer.  After 10 minutes, I rinsed with cool water, repeated my co-wash and this is where the trouble began... My normally silky, easily detangled curls held on to my fingers for dear life!  So I rinsed again with warm water- maybe there is some residue, NOPE! After the warm water my hair felt like straw. >:(  Confused and scared I did something I haven't done in years- I used shampoo, which I had to borrow from my room mate. I then repeated the co-wash and detangle process for the 3rd time!  It has been a week and my hair is still fighting and has not recovered from the abuse I put it through using this product.  Has anyone else gone through this or is my hair just mean and hateful?

I felt horrible when that happened to me. It doesn't matter what protein pak you use so don't think you should have used a different kind. Your hair is protein sensitive meaning it has a negative reaction when appled with tons of protein.

This happened to me. It will take a while for your hair to get back to normal, but deep moisturing treatments will definitely help. Your hair does need protein, but not as much as those little packs give. I use Giovanni conditioners that give a moderate amount of protein as well as Aubrey Organics GPB-which is almost too much so I have to mix just a dab of Giovanni with it. I find that JASON naturals Biotin conditioner and shampoo are good, as well as Mill Creek Keritan or their Biotin conditioner are really good. Giovanni also makes Smooth as Silk Xtreme Protein Treatment. You can find it at most Walmarts with the Burt's Bees. I personally believe that Giovanni and Mill Creeek are the best companies for kinky curly hair at a reasonable price-not to high end. You can try some deep oil treatments--with natural oils like jojoba and coconut. Keep your hair moisturized and hydrated with Glycerin also helps (I mix a dab in with my leave in with my hands and smooth through my hair). That should help. Don't worry, you'll get your beautiful hair back.
Staples:Giovanni Natural Styling Gel,Glycerin, Giovanni Smooth as Silk condish and shampoo, Giovanni Tea tree or 50/50 condishes, Giovanni Nutrafix Hair Reconstuctor, Giovanni Smooth As Silk Xtreme, Aubrey Organics GPB Conditioner

I used it on my hair and it too made my hair very dry and hard.  It took my hair weeks to bounce back.  Now I use Aphogee 2 minute Reconstructor, mixed with Aphogee essential oils, its the perfect combination of moisture and protein.
