quick question
« on: July 26, 2006, 07:21:45 PM »
Ok, yall know I've had the twa nearly 2 years and I've finally decided to grow it out.  The thing is, I usually get trims at the start of each season...I skipped summer b/c I got a fade in April.  Since i'm growing it out, do you think I should skip the trims, at least until I get out of the twa stage?  Or keep w my regimen?  If you had a twa, did you trim during the growout?

The thing is, I have a feeling if I get trim(s), it will turn into a haircut once I get in the salon chair...I know me.  But at the same time, I dont want my hair to be all raggedy either.  Help ya girl!  ;D

I think that so long as you are protecting your hair with a scarf or silk pillowcase at night, you shouldn't need one unless you see split ends or it feels raggedy.

See how long you can go without having to trim. I mean, if your ends are healthy (unlike mines sometimes :'( ) you shouldn't have to trim as much. I wouldn't trim at all if I didn't get these horrible split ends.

You must resist the force jazzi...

Stay out of the salon.  Looking at your pics...you hair doesnt seem to need one.  Your hair is some of the healthiest I have seen.  Its been almost a year since I cut.  And I keep asking folks and they say I dont need one yet.  I still plan on getting one at my year anniversary in Sept.

I agree with the ladies , see how long you can go without a trim , your hair looks really healthy right now. Maybe you can trim every other season.

I believe in preventative maintenance, but I went 5 months in between trims from Jan to June.  I just wanted my stylist to have more of a canvas to work with when he cut my hair.  I kept a good watch on the ends and I wouldn't have hesitated for a second to trim if I had seen any splits, but it stayed in really good shape. Now that I'm out of TWA stage, I will keep my 3 month trim rotation, but I think you'll be fine at your length to stretch trims.  Just keep on doing what you're doing.  ;)

Jazz,

I'm growing out my TWA as well and my hair is very healthy....The only reason I get trim once a month is, because I like my hair to have a even like shape..My top grows really fast and I don't like it to be a lot higher than the sides' but next month I will start skpping a month for my shape-up's...

Thanks for the advice ladies!  I'm precision obsessed...I guess it's just something that carried over from the relaxed years...If there's one thing I find tacky it's unshapen short hair!  Ok, I'm gonna just let it grow and keep it edged up.  I'm up to 3-4 inches now!  I just hope when it get's to that stupid length I don't cut it off!  I will resist the force!  ;D

Tee,
I purposely have more volume in the top!  I wore the halle cut so long I got used to that shape!  If I don't have it like that, it adds weight to my face  :-[

Agreed. I think trims are overrated for natural hair.  Seriously, I do.  My last trim/cut was October of last year, it's now July and my hair looks fine.  Before THAT, it was September of the PREVIOUS year.  It doesn't knot up like it did in the past, because I'm using products that WORK with my hair (excellent detangling, moisture, etc.).  I do need to go back to get some taken off the top a bit, because it's longer than the rest of my hair and I want it more even.  Then after that, I probably won't be back for awhile.

Every now and then I'll trim off some dead or scraggly hair when I have it in twists, but normally I just leave it alone.

ITA!

I've flat-ironed my hair about 3x since I've gone natural (followed by protein treatments, of course), and I don't even need a trim.  I've even asked some scissor happy people, and they say I don't need one.  ??? I have zero split ends.

I might get a 0.5 in trim on my nappiversary just as a precaution, but I dunno.  :-[

Question: Is your nappiversary considered the anniversary of your last perm or the anniversary of your BC????
