Daily workout what is a girl to do?
« on: November 07, 2009, 10:15:49 PM »
Okay help me out again, I have begun a workout reg. I am noticing that I may have to began washing my hair out daily.  I was thinking a conditioner rinse would be good enough. Does anyone else do this?  My hair is up in twist and I am not about to take them down everyday to rinse my hair out. Any suggestions?

I wish I could help you on that one.  When I was biking real heavy, I had to wash my hair afterwards, cuz I sweat like a horse.  But I always wear my hair loose.  With you living in Alaska too, I wouldn't really advise washing every day.  But I live in the South, so I can't really comment there.  I hope someone can help you out.  Some folks can get by with just conditioner rinsing, but that never worked for me.  A thorough washing with a mild shampoo did the trick, cuz I had to get all that salt out.  Otherwise, dry scalp and hair.

From everything I've heard you can just rinse sweat from your hair; no cleanser needed. I guess if you also use products that don't rinse out with water alone then that can make it a little harder to get the sweat out, but I definitely think a co-wash will be enough in most cases, unless you are really sweating a whole lot. I think as long as your hair doesn't start to feel rubbery (a sign it's getting too much moisture) then you should be OK rinsing it daily.

It depends on how much you sweat.  I sweat like a pig when I'm working out, so I wash my hair as often as I exercise.

Ditto.  I sweat so much in my scalp that if I don't at least rinse my hair I have dry, itchy scalp - but usually just a rinse isn't enough.  So I try HARD to wash/condish/style my hair on a day I have worked out, and push through a couple days of workout then co-wash on day 4.  I thought working out would've been made MUCH simpler w/natural hair but I'm still trying to figure it out.  My routine isn't perfected yet, but it's what I try to do.  And esp w/you living in Alaska, washing too often could be hard on your hair - I'm in Colorado so I know how that goes once our cold weather sets in on us.  Maybe a dry shampoo? I've never tried one but that might help.  If you discover a routine that works for you, please share it...going to the gym 3-4x/wk has proven a bit difficult in the hair department :(

Well it is now in the minus category and washing or rinsing daily is out of the question. With my twist my hair is wet half of the day and I hate soppy hair. I am at a loss as to what I should do. other than chop it off and wait for summer.  :-\

I exercise everyday twice a day I SWEAT. My hair spends the next few hours pretty damp and if I'm totally spent, I'll do a conditioning wash but sometimes I miss a day and just do it the 2nd day partly because I have tons of hair and don't always feel like going through all of that. But I wear my loose so I don't know.

I workout 4-5 days a week, sometimes 6 and I sweat like a man!!!  For the past year I've been doing a full wet/ co wash every other day and a full blown wash once per week (twice a week in summer).  On the days I don't do a full wet I just dampen my hair and add a little product in needy spots.  Of course like Bubbles, I live in the southeast where the winters aren't as harsh and I wear my hair down most of the time.
