Where can I find....
« on: December 12, 2009, 06:52:22 PM »
Hey ladies, I did the BC 2 yrs ago and it was short but not exactly the shape I would go for now. So I'm wanting to cut my hair, currently about 8-9 inches long, to about 4-5 inches (curly) into a short style similar to Wanda Sykes' shape....but not quite.  Does anyone know where I can find (online, in print, wherever) pictures of short styles for natural hair to show my stylist? I feel like there is nothing out there for natural - like real natural hair, not weave that resembles natural hair - and it is really irking me! But it may just be bc of where I live - maybe you ladies know of something I could see to get a better feel for what I'm going for?? TIA.

Maybe you can try one of those photo stock websites and just type in what you're looking for in terms of natural hair and length, style/texture, etc.  I know You are not allowed to view links.Register or Login
www.veer.com
is a good place to start but I can't think of any other sites that would have those types of pictures.  You can also do a search for some online magazines that focus on natural hair.  One in particular is Naturally You!.  I fell off from buying/collecting it for a minute but I still have some of their older magazines.   I wanted to post the link for you, but the links from google don't appear to work.  I don't know what's up with that.  I went to Kaya's blog and tried some of the links there (there's a link to order the magazine, but that's not working either.) but at any rate, here's the link to her blog (she publishes the magazine) and maybe that will lead you to what you're looking for:

I can't think of any others right now but I know a few years ago I knew of at least 2 or 3 more.  Good luck and I hope you get the haircut you want :)

You can also look at some fotkis or other online albums to find inspiration pictures.  If you have a blackberry, smartphone, iphone, laptop, netbook (lol you get my point) then you can show the stylist what you have in mind.  If they're good they should be able to go from there and hook you up with what you want.

You have me curious now so I hope it goes well.  Come back and let us know (and of course to show off your new 'do!)

Miss Jessie's website is my go-to for shapes and cuts of loose natural hair.
