Flawless Curls
« on: January 13, 2010, 07:45:41 am »
I just found out that Tresemme has a line for curly hair, Flawless Curls. Has anybody tried it? Like it? Love it? Gotta have it? Or hated it? Where did you find it?

I bought it on the recommendation of a curly on Twitter and I must say I like it a lot. I'd give the line 4 stars out of 5.

It doesn't do anything extravagant that most GOOD product lines don't do, but I think it's a solid shampoo/conditioner that you can get at your local grocery store (I paid $4 for each bottle and the bottles are HUGE). The conditioner is nice and thick and very moisturizing and gives my hair lots of slip. The shampoo is pretty normal and seems to be much less harsh on my hair than Giovanni. I actually haven't even bought Giovanni products since I started using Tressemme.

I didn't care for Tressemme when I was relaxed, but I must say I am pleasantly surprised by their products on my natural hair (Ive tried their regular "moisturizing conditioner" and it worked great as well). I have some big bottles of DevaCurl that I bought as a Christmas present to myself (LOL), but I will be rationing those. Tressemme will be my regular shampoo/conditioner combo for the forseeable future. I'm especially looking forward to the summer time.

It's pretty solid.  But in my opinion, all of their lines seem to be very similiar.  I've also used/tried their other lines and they all seem to work the same.  I was trying to do a comparison in the store once of the bottles, and the ingredients for all of them are similiar across the board, they will probably throw in one ingredient or two that is not in another conditioner or take away ingredients.

I didn't really see where flawless curls was that much different or behaved differently on my hair than the Remoisturize or Moisture Rich (which I use the most) and the deep moisturizing conditioner in the Moisture Rich line is also really good....but it's also VERY hard to find.  But you should definitely give it a try...your hair might really love it!

I also like that it's really affordable and I LOVE big bottles and bottles with pumps.  A long time ago I got a bottle of the Moisture Rich (either that or Flawless Curls) and it came with a pump.  I save my pumps to use with other big bottles that don't come with pumps.  I prefer that than to continue picking up a slippery bottle of conditioner continuously.

@shortycocoa , ITA about this line not being that much different from the others.

If you can get your mitts on the regular moisturizing stuff, it'll work the same as the Flawless Curls line.

Yep Afrocurls...because they all look the same, smell the same, and for all intents and purposes might just have all the same ingredients but they get to charge people more money thinking they are getting variety and different things.

We'll never know....after all, companies aren't required to even disclose what the ingredients are to their products, and when they do, they could be withholding information or just telling us what we want to hear.

It really is a gamble when you're using commercial products, so I see why some of you ladies use/get the itch to use non-commercial/more natural products on your hair.  Sometimes I get the same urge and try out a few things, but at the end of the day, I like the convenience of commercial products.

Well, I am yet to find the flawless curl here in Boston, but I saw the natural moisture line. It said low sulfates and all this other good stuff. I tried it and it wasn't too bad. It was actually much better than I thought it would be. I love cheap finds.

I also love the tresemme line. I have used almost all of the ones for moisture and smoothness. I have been using them off and on the entire time of me being natural and I always go back to it when i wanna really detangle or wear a wash and go. Its my favorite commercial line.
I don't have the audacity to alter the way that God made me and be anything but natural. To be otherwise is to make the statement that He somehow made a mistake.

Are you guys serious?  Has Tressemme changed it's formula?  It was one of the first conditioners I tried after my 1st BC and man did my hair hate it.  No matter how much I tried to make it work, it was stiffening to my hair (think Pump it Up styling spritz) and had NO slip.  I'm noticing more and more curlies praising this stuff, so it can't possibly be the same stuff from 2004.

What would you all compare its slip and moisturizing properties to?

LOL!  Jazzi I'm not sure if they changed the formula or not...they might have.  I started using it a few months after my BC in December 2005.  It could be one of those products that didn't work for you then that might work for you now that your hair is longer.  That can happen!  The same way that we discussed some things that worked for us when our hair was shorter but didn't work the same when our hair grew out some.

I think it has good slip and I like the moisture it provides.  To me, it's almost comparable to Aussie Moist but of course Aussie Moist is very thick...Tressemme has the consisitency that Aussie Moist would have if you added a little bit of water to it (and I do add water to my Aussie Moist when it pumps slow....to get the conditioner moving again and to stretch it some.)

Maybe you could get a sample or a small bottle and revisit it to see how it behaves on your hair now.

Is there any way to compare the ingredients from then and now to see if they did change the formula?

Thanks girl!  That description totally lets me know what it's like...and if it's like that, then I know the formula has changed!!!  I asked b/c if there's a cheap, but effective conditioner that's available on the ground, I want it...but considering how big the bottle is, I didn't want to make the committment if it was still sucky like it was 6 years ago.

I guess the only ways to know for sure are to compare an old bottle to a new one...or to just email the company...but it's not that serious.  I'll take you guys' word that it's all good.  It's 3 for $10 at Walgreens this week.

Glad I could help!  But let me find out it's 3 for $10.00 @ Walgreens?  How did I miss that?  It's probably going off sale tomorrow, isn't it?

It also depends on how you want to use it.  If you want it for conditioning properties, I still say give it a whirl.  If you don't like it, see how your hair likes it as a co-wash in place of shampoo.  And if that still sucks, you can always mix it with some oils and essential oils to make it better.

If that's still a no-go...you know what I always say...use it as a shaving cream!

Girl Jazzi don't you know I *STILL* have 2 big gallons of that Honey & Almond Salon Care mess from Sally's that I bought last spring.  It's like the jugs haven't moved.  But in my defense, I have been cutting it with water a lot to wash my hair with.

I prefer for my co-wash conditioner to be thin/runny and my conditioning  conditioner to be heavy/thick/lots of slip.

I recently tried the Tresemme Moisture Rich and really like it.  This is the best cheap condish I've used in a while.  The slip made detangling a breeze.  Kind of reminds of Pantene's Breakage Defense Mask.

Jazzi, I tried the Salon Care honey & almond condish.  This is a light conditioner.  I loved the smell, but not very moisturizing without adding  oils (castor or coconut) to it.
