Thanks Keemee- will do. I had a cut to reshape (more off than I'd like). It's cute but I'm going to keep my braids in plaits and wear a wig this winter. My mom and dad hate wigs but they absolutely love this one- my mom even bought herself one Today...lol...thanks guys for the tips.

Do you guys straighten your hair to have it trimmed? Or trim while hair is braided? Big plaits or small?

My stylist mother straightens my hair for my cuts/trims.  Because of the massive shrinkage and the many curl patterns its the only way for me at this time.

No.  I get my hair trimmed curly.  My hair shrinks to high hell so I need the shrinkage to be there when I'm getting a trim.  It's the only way to be sure that it will fall properly and that too much isn't taken off.

Well, I gave it a shot and in a matter of a few months my hair is smoother and had less knots. Protective styles as simple as twists really do work. I don't think that I'll wear my hair out often anymore from now on. I want to grow my hair out and I have been chopping for over 3 years now. Thanks for all the help guys.

I think they do but for me sometimes if I leave twists in to long i get knots. Strange but true lol. My last set were mini twists that I kept in for about 2 weeks but I wont be doing that for a while. Plus I have trouble with frizzing at times. I give the protective styling challenge another try but this time alternating with buns and medium twists.

Yeah I hear what all of you are saying. However in July 2008 I cut my hair off, and got into regular trimming while it was growing back up until November 2008. Then I decided to leave it alone within regards to scissors for a year. So the next time I trimmed my hair was November 2009. I took off about a 1 1/2 inches.

I noticed that my hair had less issues with tangles with the use of Henna or a good protein treatment I made(used periodically). Less shedding too.

So while I understand the whole trimming regularly stance, I take another approach to it. I have found it is not necessary to trim my hair that much.

The only protective thing I do with my hair is where a puff regularly (because I am lazy)

lol...I've been wearing twists and my hair has a lot less knots. I think I'm still going to trim every so often because it looks like it makes my hair look revived. Thanks!
