Ladies, I'm waiting patiently for my lil' sis to transition for more than a month, then BCing. As soon as I think she's close to chopping the perm off, she reverts back to the relaxer. I noticed tonight that she had been looking at some transition and natural (inspirational) videos on youtube. I hope that gives her more inspiration, b/c apparently I don't do it for her. But as soon as she does BC, whenever that is, I got a crapload of products waiting to be used. I bought so much stuff this year it ain't funny.

I don't think it's that you're not enough inspiration, I just think that like many, she's probably a little afraid. I was watching a chick on Youtube the other day that was transitioning with braids but still wore a wig on top and said it's because she's afraid that her whole being will have cataclysmic change after she does the BC and her life will change for the worse. That's why I never transitioned. Too much time to talk yourself out of it. I just went to the shop one day and said, "get rid of it".
Hair type: Whatever's available.

Okay, so I finally got home this morning after work and I noticed that my baby sis' DID chop off most off her processed hair.
This was the same morning that my mom asked me to purchase a super relaxer for her (since Mom wasn't gonna give her one)  :-\
So when I told her that I had a perm for her, she was all like , " Yeah, I don't want it."
Oh, yeah?
" I chopped off most of the ends and used some of your conditioner."
(My HealthySexyHair Soy Milk conditioner)
"Really??? Lemme see."
Soon after, she took off her satin scarf. Her hair was so shiny and healthy looking!!! I was so proud!!!
"Well, you know I have a closet full of products we can share. Plus, I can help do your hair if you want."
" Okay, 'cuz you know I've been snooping around in your hair stuff anyway."
  :)       :)      :)       :)       :)       :)       :)        :)        :)         :)        :)
I wasn't sure if she was really gonna do the BC, even with all the youtube videos and hair forums she had been researching.

It's so funny that people will challenge the choices you make for your own hair.  I've been natural for ages and have pretty awesome looking hair, yet people feel the need to tell me all the reasons I shouldn't use sulfates, point out a conditioner that I love has silicones, or suggest an oil variety that's "better" than what I use ::)

Shaking in my boots and temporarily coming out of lurkdom to say that the 65 page Questions that are Taboo thread had me dying laughing.  There was so much truth in many of the comments (and you all know what I'm getting at) it was ridiculous.

What, like this: "Oooh, grrrl, your hair is key-uuute!!!!!
Whatchu put in it???
Oh.
Really?
'Cuz I think you might be better off using this product here. My cousin's a natural and she uses that. It doesn't weigh your hair down, doesn't dry your hair out,..." et cetera.

Let me guess....the "challengers" were either relaxed, tex-laxed, or had a friend or relative who either is/just went natural and is spending tons of money on "all natural" products (like I used to, go figure. I learned by doing, it was all trial and error). Whatever you know works for your hair does just that.

So, what did you say to that person, Jazzi? Or did you smile and nod (like I do at the idjits that "recommend" products) ????

At least when I would talk about products to other naturals I'd have small samples for them to try. It didn't hurt that I had an idea of what ingredients they liked/didn't like in their hair.
Because I asked nicely.
One natural I knew was into the silicone/sulfate - free stuff, another just liked stuff that works well in her hair. As long as the prices were reasonable she was ok.

  I just smiled and said "ok!" (this goes on in my Fotki)  I don't have the energy to E-check people these days, so I just come and talk about them on HC, LOL!
