In: - 1/2 to 1 inch trims every 2-3 months
      - using my deep conditioners with olive/castor/avocado oil
      - protective styling

Out: - constant S&D (search & destroy) missions
        - being a product junkie
        - wash and gos

Just curious why are you doing away with "all natural" products ?

In For Me: Commercial products, protein treatments, steam treatments
Out for Me: All natural products, keeping my hair completely frizz free

I still like my click clacks (as long as they are my hair color), head wraps, and scarves though :)

In for me:  Braidouts Baby!!! Deep conditioning with banana baby food, honey, and Giovanni.  Sealing my braidouts with olive oil.  Bentonite clay for cleansing.  Paul Mitchell the Conditioner... for now.

Out for me:  Gel (Can't bring myself to do it), not detangling, expensive products.

I think gel is out for me too.  I haven't had gel in my hair since summer/fall.  Conditioner/oil/&shea butter is my new gel, lol.

Fotki is out too!  NO ONE updates her albums anymore   :'(

Shampoo seems to be in now.  I remember when folks were going years without washing

I've perfected my braidout, too. I wish I had been able to get this down before I cut all that hair off! GEEZ!  >:( LOL

I shouldn't say I'm doing away with all natural products, per se. But there used to be a time when the only products that went in my hair were all natural.  Nothing touched my hair that didn't go through the nappturality all natural hair guide LOL!  But hell, that got to be expensive as my hair got longer.  And it wasn't practical to constantly be waiting around for hair products to ship here for two weeks.  Course, I shouldn't complain, as you are in Alaska :)

Do you braid every night?  I usually do it every other night.   I've been wearing my hair pinned up lately.  A feat that is impossible if I don't braid/twist it beforehand.

Well, what's been in for me are super cheap, store bought products--Longaid, Softee. And using up the products in my graveyard/garage. The only exception is Aveda Humectant.

Also in has been cones, shampoo, and petroleum for me. Also not detangling. Just fell off the wagon with everything. I haven't updated my album in months. I guess YT is in, but I'm not into video (well, not that kind of video anyway).

But, today I just bought $70 worth of products because I desperately needed retail therapy, and got sucked an infomercial from Ouidad.

I'm am totally not with any of the newer hair care product lines out there, but I realize they're in. Also in appears to be everyone transitioning and going natural, whether they're going fully natural, slapping on a unit, weave, or press. I agree that curl definition is out, and moisturized hair is in.

I learned many years ago what works for other naturals (in many cases) will not work for me :-\ .  This is why I created my own hair thing and pretty much stick to it because it works. With that being said, here's my ins and outs...

Always IN: Low maintenance, hair butters.
IN: wearing my hair out...enjoying it more!
OUT:  shying away from boring buns!

Hair typing seems to be out.  I haven't seen the dreaded "what's my hair type" question in a minute!  and THANK GOODNESS!  :afro:

Yes, amen to that.  I have another "in":

Stretching my "hair cremes" by mixing it with softened refined shea butter. It has the consistency of Duncan Hines icing, just a bit heavier. Using that concoction gives me great twistouts and braidouts.  8)

Hmm..
In for me: Stretching my wash n' go by doing stretched styles.
Making sure i change my shower filter regularly.
Being more proactive in reducing tangles so i won't dread wash day so much.
Finding more ways to use my products so i can start reducing my stash.

Out: Feeling the need to try every product that comes out, i still want to try new things but i'm more selective about it.
Being horrible in my fotki updates, least i can do is have something worth looking at if someone stumbles upon it. *I can at least try*

Agree with the bolded. I have just started trying to use up or get rid of products that don't work for me rather than holding on to them in the hope that one day so for some reason they will start working.

Also jumping on every new thing that comes out, I remember it used to be so hard to get the products over here in the UK that the US has so when they were available I would go mad on them.
Now I'm just using mainly curl junkie and Darcy's botanicals ( with my blended beauty herbal reconditioner, I don't use any stylers from that line anymore) and my challenge is to keep to that.

I have so many products that i mainly used for wash and gos and because i don't style often it has really helped to use products for more than just wash n go styles.
