Uncle Funky's Daughter anyone??
« on: February 03, 2010, 11:24:33 am »
Has anyone even heard of this?  I stumbled across it this morning.  Natural salon in Houston with a product line as well.  Ingredients seem good enough, but need to see a full list of ingredients.  Available products are a sulfate-free shampoo, conditioner, styling creme, moisturizing creme and a "curl stimulator" (whatever that is).

I do give it a side eye for the labeling as it does look a little familiar.  But that's another discussion.

The moisturizing creme called Extra Butter is what caught my [side-]eye.  Looks like it could be an alternative for those who use MJ's buttercreme on a regular basis.  And I'm looking for something to put on my daughter's hair so her 'fro can stop looking like dull tumbleweed.  Homegirl has some beautiful (albeit still very short) hair that I can tell is going to be very thick, very coarse, and semi-wiry and she DESPERATELY needs moisture...even more than me and I've yet to satisfactorily find anything.

But I digress...I had to give up the buttercreme long ago because I wasn't feeling the ingredient list.  BUT, I have to admit, the BC used to give me a mean twist out like no other.

Here's the lowdown on the Extra Butter from the website:

This company has no shame!  They ripped off KCCC with their Curly Magic, and now their ripping off Miss Jessies with damn near the same packaging!  WOW!   Never tried anything though!

what have you been using on her hair Kink?

The Extra Butter is the bomb diggity!!! I love the moisture and hold it gives. The Good Hair leave-in is good. I wouldn't bother with the other products. I don't like the $22 price tag for the Extra Butter but I guess all of the natural products are going up in price.

Although the curly majic has been compared to KCCC, from the reviews I've read a lot of folks prefer it because it dries faster and a lot of people have said it's more moisturizing. I also have seen preety much nothing but good reviews on the extra butter, also extremerly mosturizing. This one coaught ny eye too but my hair hates coconut oil so I can't try this one  :'(

I have tried and use the "curly magic".  It is not as good with moisture for me as the kccc.  What i like most is that it doesn't give me that hard dry straw feeling when I apply it to my wet hair like kccc.  I switch up between these along with curl gel e sy or whatever it's called.  It's not great for moisture either to me, but I plan on using up that 25 bucks.  I am still on the look out for the best product to do wash n go's and to combat my xtra dry naps.

Looking at the ingredient list of bothcm and kccc, they did do a drive by,LOL-- but made it original by leaving out all but 1 ingredient "pectin".

Since I am waiting on my shea butter to be delivered and  trying to stop using the last of my non all natural product ms. jessies, baby buttercreme.  I will drive by the store 2morow to pick up their "original bootlegged natural creme".  If anyone ever wants some of their products and want to forgo their high shipping (not sure what it is) I am willing to get it for you and pay "REAL" shipping costs.  We all can use a little savings somewhere.

I have three products from this line.  I don't know if you've checked Youtube ,but there are good few reviews there on FD products.  Actually that's how I found out about them..but I digress..

I have the Curly Magic, Good Hair (leave-in) and Extra butter.

I like all the products.  You are right the Curly Magic is very similar to KCCC.  But I like that is drys faster and my hair has more movement.  I've also been able to use (just a bit) to smooth my hair line when wet bunning.  I use the Good Hair in wet hair the same way I use Knot Today.  I think Good Hair has more hold and is bit heavier.  I like that it contains jojoba oil.

I ordered these over the holiday season.  I have just starting experimenting with the Extra butter.  So far I like it.  I wet bunned with it for a week and the moisture level in my hair was good.  Once I do a braidout with it, I will post my final analysis.

ETA:  After trying numerous product lines over the years, I am finding that simply misting my hair with water and sealing my with unrefined shea butter  and rolling the ends keeps more moisture in my hair than ANY commercial product that I tried.  Go figure...but the PJ in me wants to try KBBB's hair milk. LOL

That tub of Extra Butter looks like Oyinhandmade's Whipped Pudding too!

Interesting.... well people on Youtube are raving the Curly Magic! However now that I have figured out a way to use KCCC with out the super sticky residue, and I can get it at WF, I am not tempted to try UFD CM at all.

Fa REAL! Um is sick, sick of shipping fees. PERIOD.
