Nat,

I feel your weariness!  I just took down a set of twists that I had in an updo for a few days.  They HAD to come down.  I'm dreading taming it.  I think I'll put it off another day by avoiding manipulation, wetting it in the shower tomorrow morning, and wearing it in a puff.  I'll redo it tomorrow.  Really, lol.

LL - I think I'll try to cowash ??? the next twists I do...I wasn't sure I could do it that way...but I'm game to try anything that allows me to stretch the time I have my hair in a set style.  Maybe washing them is how others keep them in so long?? Not sure how mine'll turn out but I'll let ya know!

Socoily - My scalp is itching so bad, I guess I'll take care of business today - I don't have anything to do after lunch time so....UGH!!! You should see my hair - like WHOA! But I wear a scarf/headband to make them look uniform, anything to keep from having to tame the fro that lies within  Good luck your way....

Hello ladies,
Just giving a quick update.  After washing with the twists still in, I turned the small twists into a set of finger coils.  I think they turned out pretty good.  I also felt like doing something a little different and added some cornrows to one section in the front.  As a side note, this was the first time I used only my fingers to detangle.  It worked well.  I got rid of my shed hair without causing any extra breaks.

I havent been checking in but I have been protecting my hair with "microbraids" a la kinkykurlyqueen and it has been a tremendous help. My hair hasnt felt this good in a long time!!! I'm hoping to keep them in for another 4 weeks or so. It will probably be a staple for me this year since my Itty Bitty will be born pretty soon  ;D.

They are time consuming to put in/take out but they are worth the work since I don't have to do much to them between re-do's.

Protective styling is the best! I started braiding my hair ( by myself, yay! :alright: )to take a break from my everyday wash and go's. I kept the style for one week and by the next week when I had a new set, my hair was noticably longer. I remember once before I had ever relaxed, my mother went to the states for a few months and my hair got short because it had broken off (the woman who did my hair during this time thought it was her own fault because she belived that when a pregnant woman does a person's hair, it would get short. I knew it was because she insisted on using a fine, sharp tooth comb to do my hair). My hair could not be put into a ponytail anymore. When my mother came back, she box-braided my hair every two weeks and after a few weeks my hair got past my sholuders. Me being foolish asked  if I could get a relaxer, which made my hair break really badly so I'm back to square one

I realize that the girls at who have long hair always keep their hair braided or in a bun. The girls with short hair always have some crazy styles which require tight ponytails, overly teased ends and cheap brown gel which are sold on the road side in little plastic bags.
Hair Goals: 1. For hair to be long enough to be put into two ponytails
                     2. For hair to be long enough for one low ponytail

Yeah! I have a fotki!!: You are not allowed to view links.Register or Login

There's not a whole lot going on, I'm just checking in.  Right now I'm wearing my standard twists but I did them using shae's pudding, a recipe I got from NP.  It's the homemade version of curly pudding and I have to say that I love it.  My twists are smoother and hang better.  I can't wait to see the resulting twist out.

Did you use the homemade pudding on those finger coils as well? They really look great!

Super bored with this twist bun... I wore my hair out for Valentine's Day and wore it out or in a puff for a week... Then it was in lazy bun (a ponytail not quite pulled all the way thru) for another week.  I rinsed my hair with my ayurvedic tea ans co-washed, but no detangling of any sort.  So when i finally got around to re-doing my boring twist bun... I have a renewed appreciation for it... Lol

Thank-you.  For the finger coils I only used my homemade flax seed gel but the flax gel is a key ingredient in the pudding.
