I have a 2:00 appt. today for my cut.  Still don't know what I'm getting, but I know its coming off!

How did I miss this???  Let me find out!  Now I need to scurry off to see your fotki.

On a side note, this really must be all a part of going through the "natural motions" so to speak...because Friday a friend called me (she's also natural) and she was asking me if she should color her hair, texturize, BKT, or relax or cut it all off.  She's tired of the maintenance and she says she has to wash it every other day or it gets matted all over.  It's hard to tell which choice she's leaning towards more at the moment.   I did tell her to make sure she chose an option that is less chemically evasive so that if she doesn't like it or ends up regretting it, she could rebound more easily.

At this point in the game, it's all about comfort and low maintenance.  Long hair just because is for the birds.

That's the exact same thing I said last year before I cut my hair! :lmao:

You're absolutely right, though. Long hair just because BLOWS. No shade to the naturals that like to do the growth challenges and are petrified of cutting even 1/32438323492 of an inch off, but long natural hair with no shape to it is the pits.

I probably won't go short again because hair as thick as mine really does not need to be short and natural. I do NOT have the patience for that. However, I DO plan to keep it cut into a CUTE SHAPE. THIS IS KEY. I'm scheduled for a Devachan cut on Saturday and I'm super excited. It's important that my hair be healthy AND cute. Twists and buns and baggying may work for some but forget all that...I WANNA BE SEXY!

I completely agree...I'm all about my hair being shaped and sexy!  Just b/c my hair is natural doesn't mean I'm obligated to long lengths, typical natural styles, and can't wear a cute haircut!  Nicole Murphy is a perfect example! :D

BTW way Afrocurls, what happened to Yodit?  Good luck at Devachan! and please post pics!

Exactly!

I think a lot of naturals are focused on length by any means necessary. They will do anything just for their hair to be long, even if the styles they wear aren't the most flattering or aesthetically appealing on them. I don't know about you guys, but my hair makes a BIG difference in my opinion and frankly, I'm sick of being conservative with it and being afraid to try new things because "OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG what if I lose length?"

I think most naturals reach this point around the four or five year mark.

As far as I know, she's still there! I moved out of the area, though, so she's not my regular stylist anymore.

I must have been under a rock because I totally missed this!  Can't wait to see pictures.
I understand what you're saying about the length.  It takes so much time to deal with, and my hair doesn't have as much length as you and Afrocurls.  That was part of the reason why I cut it off in the first place.
Afrocurls, please post pictures.  I'm trying to decide between Devachan and Ouidad for my next cut.  I hear good things about Devachan, but my union has a discount with Ouidad.
