Drugstore Products/Target too!
« on: April 12, 2010, 11:47:37 AM »
There are so many products out there that seem so great, and might actually work for my hair. However at this point, I really need a list of things I can get my hands on fast from locals stores, that do just as well, when I don't have the time to wait for products to be delivered. (Or if I am just in one of my moods, boycotting S&H).

Do any of you  have a list of things you get from the drugstore, that do pretty good in your hair, as in easy to wash out, can produce multiple day hair(maybe), that won't break that bank, that you didn't make it?

If ever I was in a situation where I couldn't buy my staple hair styling products, I would simply rely on three things:

Aloe Vera Gel (the kind you ingest, from the health food store, GNC, Vitamine Shoppe, etc. and very affordable)
Coconut Oil or Castor Oil (add it to the aloe for shine or to a conditioner)
Glycerin (not a necessity, but a good companion to aloe vera for moisture).

Mix all three of these and it'll get you through! You can get fancy and start mixing all types of things in it like xanthan gum (to make it more creamy), but that's just complicating things.

ITA w morenae! That's the best moisture/definition combo there is!  Curl activator gels are great too...if you want more hold, Feels like Silk, IC, or Ecostyler.  Any shampoo will do, although I prefer baby shampoo. Conditioners, I'm all about Pantene...Relaxed & Natural/Beautiful Lengths are my favorites...rinse out, leave in, DT (w/oil) all in one.  Cantu Shea Butter is a really good soft styles product and Kids Organics Shea Butter Hair Lotion works great for dry styles.  Everything I use comes from the drugstore!

Thanks ladies!!! I am going to have to look for some aloe vera (should be pretty easy). Some of the other things I have.
I need to get some more conditioners in the house to pull from, and that is because I really don't believe in spending a fortune on conditioner. Just not all that deep to me, although I do buy some of the more expensive ones from time to time. Right now Suave is my friend. I have been looking for the tresemme, but to no avail.

Pantene I need to get some of. Love the smell.

Hey!!! I forgot about Giovanni Direct and Aubrey Organics!!! Plus Trader Joe's Nourish Spa (although I thought this product was discontinued).

However I can only find Giovanni at Drug stores, and seeing how Rite Aid, Walgreens and CVS stores at 24hours(specific ones), it really helps to have a list of things from there. However if I can get to the other stores, that still helps to avoid the dreaded S&H.

Thanks Ladies!!!

Anymore? Anyone?

Here's another one...

I know you like to stick to natural products, if possible. Have you tried the Yes to Carrots/Yes to Cucumbers line? I've seen it at drugstores and grocery stores, even Target, and Whole Foods. I've only tried the Yes to Cucumbers Leave-in and the Yes to Carrots Mud Mask. I prefer this leave-in over Giovanni, it's creamy. I like the the Mud Mask also, but warning.. the mask contains dimethicone.

Here's a link to all their ingredient lists.

Yes I love natural products, but as my hair has gotten longer, and I have gotten over it, I have relaxed my position on natural products. I will give it a try and if it works well for me, I will use shampoo once it builds up and k.i.m.

Thanks!

I have recently been using HE dangerously straight conditioner, as a rinse and leave-in, and I really like it. It is full of cones, but like I said, I wash it and k.i.m.!
