Uncle Funky's Daughter
« on: April 22, 2010, 08:42:20 pm »
I got sucked in by the funk.

I've been sticking to my lonesome jar of Kinky Curly forever now. I had somewhat given up on finding a new "straight out of the jar" holy grail. But then all the hype ensued around Uncle Funky's, and I caved in to the pressure to finally try something new.

I'm feelin' the Funk, y'all.

The company has basically ripped off KCCC. They rearranged the ingredients and subtracted the pectin in the KCCC formula. The result - Curly Magic - a better version of KCCC that performs just the same but does not take as long to dry or make your hair hard and sticky. And the packaging is better. It's in a pump bottle, so no more sloppy jar gunk dripping all over your hand.

I applied it just as I apply all my products - on wet hair, in sections, defining all the curls. I used Giovanni Direct leave in under it. I did my hair on Sunday, and it's now Friday. The curls are still looking quite fine.

Imitation is a sincere form of flattery they say. I feel like a traitor saying so, but UFD is a better KCCC for me. Definition without the crunch, all natural ingredients, multi-day hair, more convenient packaging, and cheaper ($25.00 for 18oz compared to $29.00 for 16oz). The only drawback is that I cannot buy it on the ground like I can buy KCCC.

I also tried the Extra Butter. It's a'ight. All natural, which is a plus. Thick, which I like. And quite moisturizing. But nothing that really blows my mind in comparison to other cream moisturizers out there.

All in all - 5 stars for Curly Magic if you're someone who likes KCCC, and 3 stars for Extra Butter.

So it's the pectin in KCCC that's made my hair hard time and time again no matter what I did? I might have to see about that UFD Curly Magic soon.

Thanks morenae for the review. What does it smell like? I heard before that it smelled like root beer  :(  I'm hoping they have changed that. The product junky in me wants to try it.

Hmm...I'm curious about this.  I wish I could try a sample.
1 Samuel 16:7
But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
