Even Men Get Tired of Fake Sistas!
« on: May 05, 2010, 09:15:44 PM »
Check out this discussion going on @Bossip.  A chick wrote in about her BF getting tired of the fake: hair, nails, and contacts.  The responses were rather shocking!  Are young people beginning to wake up?!!

I read a lot of those responses. According to those who responded, I guess people are divided on the issue of fake vs. real, i.e. extensions vs. scalp-grown, colored contacts vs. one's natural eye color, acrylics vs. natural nails.

For what it's worth I think that letter is fake (something about the wording doesn't seem genuine to me) but the responses aren't any different than what I expected. Most of the comments were basically "Do you... but you're lucky to have a man who likes you without all the extra because most Black men don't, so don't lose your man in the process"

I don't think that there are more people rejecting fakeness altogether, just more people rejecting harsh, obviously fake weaves, contacts, nails, etc. I hear people talk about 'fresh-faced, natural-looking' women like Halle Berry or Kerry Washington, for example,  but the truth is that it takes goo-gobs of products and manpower for them to look so "natural". The same for the weaves they sometimes wear, which I've also heard being refered to as "natural-looking". As long as the end result looks like what that person could (but what many people think they should) look like I don't think most people have too much of a problem with it.

Hey Ladies! :sunny:

Very interesting..I mean some peeps were coming at dude all sideways I actually like the tough love he was giving her because its true. How do you look underneath the costume? and they have been together 3 years and he has no idea what her real hair or eyes look like? I mean I do understand he met her that way but it doesnt hurt for her to give her hair and eyes a break sheesh  this is a  hype situation  but oh well  ::)

To me even that is better than nothing. I'm sick of the overly shiny weaves that sit on the head like a bad wig, mismatched makeup, etc. I saw a woman on TV today with eyeblindingly shiny plastic weave, plastic eyelashes, eyebrows penciled on in thick obvious lines. . . what kind of fakery are you gonna attract if your everyday look is so blatantly artificial?

The other night while out with my friend celebrating her birthday I rocked my fro and she a weave. She got far more attention than I did. I got weird stares a white dude even asked me how did I get my hair like that. Initially I was extremely annoyed by his obvious ignorance, but it isn't his fault. For years beauty has been portrayed as silky, straight long flowing hair. Not realizing that at the end of the night when she takes all that mess off her hair is nappier than mine and not near as healthy. I love being the naturally beautiful woman God made me...
