Alternative hair strengthening methods besides Henna
« on: May 25, 2010, 10:12:54 AM »
I am a new natural and I have been having tons of shedding every time I wash or co-wash my hair and I started thinking about doing a henna treatment. However, I do not want to change the color of my hair nor do I want to loosen my curl pattern any because I already have a few areas where there are loose and little to no curls...I don't want it to look like I'm relaxed all over again. Are there any other people out there who are like me and don't want to result to using henna to strengthen their hair? Does any one have any suggestions on alternative strenghtening methods?

I used to have shedding really bad until I started doing a protein treatment every two weeks and deep conditioning under a steamer every week.  The shedding started to stop.  Of course, I was pregnant, but even in the beginning  of my pregnancy I had shedding.  Once I started doing a protein treatment and deep conditioning regularly, it lessened.  I attribute it to the treatments and less to the pregnancy.  I used Nexxus Emergencee for my protein treatment.  Hope that helps.

Protein treatments once monthly adding moisturizing treatments the other 3 weeks a month to balance the protein.

I like mayonaise for protein treatments (can be a bit smelly  :faint: ) Yogurt is good too!

I do have an Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor pack that I can try out during my next shampoo session. I remember getting an Aphogee protein treatment years ago that made my hair extremely hard but I'm sure that's why you said I should balance it with moisturizing treatments. Thanks ladies for your help!

I tried cassia before i tried henna and maybe the quality of henna I got is not the best because I love Cassia!

Cassia is what is sometime called clear henna...its not suppose to change your hair color but the mix I make because I had other things does make my hair color look more lush.

I would def recommend this......they say that it doesn't last as long as henna but I do protein treatments 1-2x a month anyway.

Good luck  :)
