My twists made it 14 days. I unraveled them tonight. I'll sport my twistout until Sunday and then poo, deepcon and retwist.

To my surprise my twistout has lasted 4 days! Today I corinsed it (no manipulation) to give it more moisture and a fresher look, and now it's in a large puff. Tomorrow I'll wash, depcondish, detangle
, and twist it up again.

Last night I DT and detangled my matted, knotted mess. Not fun at all. I let it dry overnight in two ponypuffs and twisted it up again today. Hopefully these last a week to a week and a half.

I'm going to finish up March with my psc and then who knows. I might keep going until it gets warmer or just set my naps free. I've had the currest set of twist for a week and a half.

Anybody interested in this this year? Is December a more doable start time? I remember seeing this last year when I BC'd and thought, I ain't got no hair...but this year I'm ready!
I've been doing protective styles a lot lately, it seems so happy! What do you ladies think??

How do you ladies keep your hair moisturized when in protective styles? What sort of products do you use?

I've already started. I'm washing, dt-ing and twisting every Sunday. I plan on doing twistouts Fri and Sat. As for products I'm using a little Generic Biolage condish as a leave in and sealing that with an ample amount of raw shea butter, then twisting. To keep it moisturized I'm spritzing my twists in the morning with a little distilled water and putting a shower cap on while I shower and dress. If my twists were kind of dry before spritzing, I'll seal with some virgin coconut oil after taking the plastic cap off. Shake and go after that. I plan to keep this up for as long as possible....hopefully until April or so. If I can't deal, I'll do a phony puff for a couple of days.

I started last night with finger coils. I plan to wash, dt and twist or braid weekly. I use Eden Body Works hair milk as a leave in and twist/braid with my shea aloe mixture. If I do finger coils I use my homemade gel. To keep it moisturized I touch up it up with hair milk in the morning and every other night I oil and baggy my hair.

Okay, a lot of us have already started. I've been wearing a protective style for maybe a month now - twist, box braids, and it's flat ironed now - but let's give it an official start date for those of us who haven't kept "count" or have yet to start.
Let's start on Sunday, Nov. 16.
SoCoily - where ARE you in Colorado??!?! And how long have you been here, why am I only finding this out just now!!?? Talk to me...
I'm going to post another reply to ask some questions to help those of us (me included) have never done this. I think SoCoily already answered, so unless you want to answer again, thanks for the info. It'll help me a lot this winter.

1) What styles will you use during the protective style challenge?
2) What products will you use to keep your hair moisturized?
3) Who will do said styles for you (ie. yourself, stylist, friend)?
4) How often will you have to redo your style?
5) What will be your process upon changing styles (ie. shampoo washing/cond, DT)?
Thanks for sharing your technique for this, this is my first winter able to do any kind of style so it'll be interesting keeping it moisturized but clean, which my scalp demands. Here's to another 4-5 months!
