I'll have to check out the blogging area Smocches, I haven't been there yet!

MissT- Thanks for the update! I too braided my hair for the week, but have yet to try washing them.  I suppose I'll wait til the end of the week to see how my scalp feels.  It took me a good 2 hours to box-braid my hair and it felt like forever! I have been applying coconut oil to my scalp and it really has helped with the dryness.

I must say I miss my curlies, but when I say that I quickly remember what is required to keep that WAG look up, for me at least, so I just 'play' in my hair on wash day and put it 'away' again.  When I wake up and don't have to do anything to my hair I must say the longing for the WAG is long gone!

When I wake up and don't have to do anything to my hair ...

This is why I wear protective styles 85% of the time :)

Since starting this challenge I have tried to be more creative with my styles.  At least as much as my hair will allow.

MissT- I feel you! Especially during the winter, and my daily styling regimen requires water - water + 25 degree mornings? That does NOT add up.  I'm thinking I may try out the flat-twists.  MotownGirl explained how to do them on her website but it just doesn't make sense to me - hair styling is NOT my thing unfortunately.  So maybe my mom can help me out when I'm up there.  Have you tried that style?

I'm not all that creative - styling challenged as I said before - does anyone know of a photo album I could stalk to get some style ideas?? I know names of them, but would like to see what they look like in hopes it'd help me reproduce the look on my own head.  Any help would be great - and would love it even better if the album was from a curly here!! TIA.

NATuralinCO  - Yes, I have tried flat twists.  I haven't had a whole lot of succes yet but I will not be denied.  For right now I'm experimenting with different cornrow patterns.

MissT- I would love to be able to cornrow my hair, I do a good job on my daughter's but doing my own is tough...they are ok for nighttime, but I wouldn't wear them in public ;) I should practice.  But you're doing patterns? Now that won't happen here for quite some time!! If you post pics of your styles on your fotki, let me know, I would love to see them!!

Hello ladies,
Just checking in to update.  I tried my first set of yarn twists yesterday and I think they turned out pretty good.  So this will be my protective style for the next month or so.

Hello ladies,
I was having a few issues with my computer and loading pics but I have posted a pic of my yarn twists in the gallery.  They took a long time but I really like them.

Hello ladies,
I didn't quite make the month mark with my yarn twists.  They held up fine, but I got bored.  I have discovered that by doing them myself I didn't get that "I gotta get my money's worth" feeling so I was cool with taking them out early.  I am now wearing the first set of small twists I have done myself.  My technique must have gotten better because they only took 4 hours to do the small ones when it usually takes that long to do medium ones ;D.

I am so tired of my hair ladies.  I twisted it about a week ago and it's time to do something because I can't go longer than a week without water on my scalp - tried it, it just won't happen.  But the idea of washing my hair and staring at the afro awaiting me is just daunting!! What is WRONG with me? I love my hair, I just hate getting it from crazy coily fro to into a protective style.  It takes me about 2 hours...just so tedious.  I needed to whine...maybe I'll get cornrows, I just need a break from this hair of mine.  I think I'm just tired of doing it MYSELF  :P Must...Do....Something.
