grow pixie, grow pixie, it's your birthday, it's your birthday....grow on lilpixie, grow on :)

My twists are still lookin' very pretty, but this evening, my scalp has been itching.  I'm going to try the stocking cap method tonight, since I just have to get through tomorrow Sat before I wash again.

I'm loving this twist it up thing. ;)

Ladies, I have a lil tip...the longer you go without wetting, the longer the twists last/better they look.  I didn't spritz/wet the first 3 days, but did today.  So on day 4, I have the look I usually get on day 2.  That's at least 3 days added!  ;)

Interesting suggestion, Jazzi, and just in the nick of time as I was getting ready to give my twists a good dousing before I go to sleep. I haven't put any moisturizer on them since I twisted them up. You are definitely onto something, 'cause the section I redid at the front, I let it steam in the shower before it was fully dry. I would say it looks only a day or so behind the earlier sections which I did several days ago.

Jemaria, I had to retwist the front last night (individuals and then flat twisted those) , so I may be a violator too...LOL.  What I have noticed, is that last night, I tied a scrunchie around the twists and then tied them down.  That helped with shrinkage in a big way.  They are actually hanging today.  ;D

I pulled them back earlier on, just for a few minutes and it did help. The problem is all the shorter sections that kept popping out (with no gel/brush to hold them down) and sticking out at slightly odd angles in front of my face. I also think the way I cover them at night is too loose, I need to find one of my smoother scarves so I can tie it down more securely.

you know what jeamaria, I'm thinking that you've got the scarf thing right.  These twists have stayed neater longer than any other set I've done (not fuzzy, which is probably gonna change tonight after I rinse my scalp).  The major difference is that I've used a wave cap (I call them doo rags) that guys wear and it's a snug fit when I tie them down.

I have a doo rag somewhere; I used to sleep in one everynight in high school to keep my multiple-day greased down ponytail in place. Much better than any scarf because it doesn't loosen so much when you tie it. I'll see if I can dig that old one up; I noticed the price in the BSS has practically tripled since I got mine back in the day.

Does a twist out count as a protective style?  I swear I'm too lazy to manipulate it.

Pixie,
I think they do. These days my twist outs last longer than my twists. I usually wear my twists for a week, they unravel, then I wear the twist out for two weeks. Just please be careful about washing, I find that it creates either tangling (on small twists) or little knots (on larger twists).

The last time I washed my twist out i got these cute little coils, but that may be because my hair is shorter than your's.  I think you're right twists outs lasting longer.  My twist out does last longer than my twists, but that may just be because I like to play with my hair and pull them out relatively early.

Ladies
There are a few things I want you to do, if you don't mind.

Log into this thread to tell us:
-when you start your protective style
-the products used
-anything you do to your style (re-twist, spritz, rinse, etc)
-when you wash and redo
-when you add PSL updates to your album

Thanks girls,

~Jazzi

Jazzi:  Trust me... you don't want open that door.

Start of protective style:  Tuesday January 5th
Products:  I spritzed with my olive oil, conditioner, and water spritz.  I then let it dry and twisted my hair with Elasta QP Mango butter.
What I do:  I spritz in the morning and apply a little mango butter.  Occasionally, I retwist.
Yesterday I co washed.
Currently I have a twist out.
I will posting the pictures tonight.

Started - january 2nd (?)
Products - Homemade frizz pudding, Diluted Giovanni Leave-In conditioner, Fantasia IC gel
What I do- cowashed w/ V05 & coconut oil (warmed)every other night, put in leave-in and homemade frizz pudding, double twist, scarf,

I haven't been washing my twists, I have been retwisting my hair.  Is that ok? I just noticed that some have been washing twists.  My hair is dry and blah, but since I joined this board and followed the suggestions that I can, my hair feels so much better that I want to continue to cowash 4 times a week, is that too much?

I have got to get a dern camera  >:(

Pixie,
I get coils too... But I've found that with smaller twists rinsing the twist-out tends to cause tangles that are really hard to comb out

-when you start your protective style... Today!
-the products used -Water
-anything you do to your style (re-twist, spritz, rinse, etc) - I'll rinse them tomorrow to make sure they lay down
-when you wash and redo ... hopefully not for another mo. We'll see about the unraveling.
-when you add PSL updates to your album... later, later.
