I get coils too... But I've found that with smaller twists rinsing the twist-out tends to cause tangles that are really hard to comb out

-when you add PSL updates to your album... later, later.

Oh.  I'm too lazy for the smaller twists.  And what do you mean "later, later"?  If I gotta update, you gotta update  :P

I would like to join this challenge. I need to stay out of my hair and cut back on the water for winter time. It's getting too cold here.

-when you start your protective style: I put in twists on Jan. 4

-the products used: I co-washed with Suave Toasted Vanilla and Sugar, applied some homemade shea butter/honey cream, let air dry until slightly damp and got my twist on armed with my spray bottle to re-dampen sections that got too dry

-anything you do to your style (re-twist, spritz, rinse, etc): I spritz in the morning and before I go to bed with homemade deionized water/condish/jojoba/rosemary concoction.

-when you wash and redo: trying to try to keep in for a week before I wash and retwist. Not sure if I should just wash with twists in and retwist the same sections or not...

-when you add PSL updates to your album: I will update my album later on today
formerly NapsInDK, finally figured out how to change it. lol

Please share with me how you do your twists. I would like to have a step by step guide especially what you use to create your slick looking twist. I have admired a number of the women on the board and would like a little guidance. I find it easy to do other peoples, but difficult to do my own. so please throw me a line :)
Keep in mind the air is really dry in Alaska so I need lots of moisture

Started PS: Thursday, 1/4/07
Products used: ORS Lock and Twist Gel
Extras: Coated twists with Soft Curl Cream (trying to get rid of it) on Friday morning
Wash and redo: Profected for Tuesday, 1/8/07
Updates: None yet :(

I have to admit that while this is a protective style challenge, I am having difficulty keeping my fingers out of my twists.  I find my self unknowingly playing in them and twisting them.

Products used: Blended Beauty Curl Styling Cream and Homemade Butter

I wash, condition and apply moisturizer to my hair.  After it dries, I take each coil clump, apply creme, seperate into 2 strands, and twist.  I continue that pattern all over until its finished.

I don't comb or brush my hair out of the curl pattern b/c I use it as a guide for twist size and it keeps the shape natural.  Combing it into a fro makes the job difficult in my opinion.

I have everything I use for my hair listed in my album.  Hope that helps! and Welcome!  ;D

Yes, Jazzi that was eye opening.  I am sad to admit that I am afraid to wash my hair, because it has a tendency to get sooooo dry. I got it washed last week maybe I can mist it w/ a leave in conditioner and lotta body mix.  What do you think?  Does anyone use wax to hold the style or is wax a taboo?
I may have to hold off on the PS for a week or more, but I want to practice on my dau.

Thanks

I don't use wax, but I do use shea/mango based butter mixed with a little IC Fantasia sparkalites to for hold.  This worked for me really well last week (kept my twists looking really neat, not fuzzy at all) until I rinsed them on Thursday.  This week, no rinsing because I got a lot of unravels after that.

Wax may have too much beeswax in it, making it hard to remove and therefore harder to get moisture to your hair.

Have you thought about a light styling gel (I would think you could find say Suave Anti Frizz gel) anywhere and a creamy leave-in to make you a twisting mix.  That suggestion comes because I'm not sure what your options are in Alaska.

This is not on the topic EXACTLY, but, is it better to twist with dry hair? Does it matter on the texture and length?  Should I be putting the gel on my whole head before I start twisting or do bit by bit?  ???  I plan to cowash tonight and DT my hair then twists.  I am hoping to get them nice enough so I don't have to cover them unless I want to. TIA for help, ladies.

Sweetiepie, for me, the only difference in wet vs. dry twisting is the amount of shrinkage that occurs.  They are going to shrink, but they shrink less than when done on dry/damp hair than wet hair.
