Protective Style Challenge
« on: December 19, 2006, 01:28:00 am »
It's about time for a new challenge, and since the weather calls for it, how about a protective style challenge?  I'm already doing one alone, so how about joining ya girl!  :brow:

It will basically entail putting your hair into any style you can't manipulate: twists, box braids, cornrows, buns, bantu knots or whatever you like...wearing the style for as long as you can..wash and repeat.  If you think you can hang, check in here  :afro:

Excellent idea! I've been on a personal protective style challenge since september of this year and I can tell so far that my hair loves it. I've even gotten to the point where I can keep a set of twists in for upwards of 3 weeks before taking them down and re-twisting.

When would the challenge be over?

3 weeks!  Wow, I wanna be like you when I grow up!  I'm lucky to get a full week  :-[  The challenge can last for as long as you'd like, but I'm shooting for March!  8)

edit:
questions
1.Is this an "everyday" style literally?

2.Washing allowed? Is there a "wash day" meaning "Okay guys we're all washing our hair today" kind of thing

3.How can you track our progress? Just to keep a few of us motivated. ;)

4.Products or no products?

I'm game! My hair needs some serious downtime...I've been in it way too much lately. I just made an appointment for a trim (pray for me ya'll-I'm scurred :'() so I'll do a DT afterward and braid it all up after Christmas.

Ok, so, I'm going to try my bestest (does that count?? LOL).  It's nice to do something different for a while, hopefully, I can follow through. This is my first set and I've lasted 5 days (I'm so excited).  I will see in the AM if I can make it until I get home to DT (I think I'll be ok).

Doing this will definitely shutdown my inner pj which was on the rise for about 3 weeks (it's just so easy to get into that mode when you like to buy stuff). There's absolutely nothing that I would need that I don't have to do this through March.

Hopefully, I won't get too bored to cope...we shall see...Either way, the inner pj has been given a heavy dose of ambien.

It'd do me good to join, but my default protective style (twists) doesn't look so good on me, and most cornrowed styles that do involve me leaving half of my hair out. What about a week-long twist-out, would that count? :-\

Jeamaria I was about to ask the same thing.  I did a DT and twists on Sunday and Monday I untwisted them and I've been wearing a twist out so far.  I really think this could last all week so would this be considered a protective style?
extremely thick, kinky, coils and curls that have a mind of thier own.
